Hi Guys.
I have 21 acres of grass land which is cut for hay, the 21 acres is in five small fields, and I was wondering if I could cut my cost by using a spreader on my three point hitch to spread fertilizer,at the moment I have MFA come in and do it, what do the spreaders work like that Orscheln's sell ? any help would be a big help Thank you.
Ken.

How are you going to get the fertilizer to the spreader? If you buy it in bags it's going to be higher priced and if you get it in bulk you have to have something to haul it in that you don't care about rusting out because it will and soon.

For 21 acres, rather than spend a couple of hundred on a 3 pt spreader, why not go to your local fertilizer dealer and just rent one of their spreaders for the day and spread bulk fertilizer? Get a soil test, they will custom mix anything you want, and the cost is generally about $2 per acre for the cart. You haul the cart home behind the pickup, spread the fertilizer, and take the cart back. They're easy to set, accurate on rates, and bulk is a lot cheaper than bagged. And it will only take an hour or so to spread it and you're done.
