Just got a text message on my phone that I"ve won a $1,000 gift card from Walmart. Instructions say go to dealwizard.com and enter code "Free". Left a phone number. Sounds phisy to me.

Why not??? As long as they don't want your full name, address, and other info. You may just have to put in your code and get another code to pick up your card at walmart.

just do it from a work or library computer in case it's a trojan horse site.... And disconnect as soon as they ask personal info....

Hi Nancy,
I get the same messages also on my phone. I just delete them. I never gave any corporation my phone number, so I don't know where they get the numbers from. I am up in Minnesota.

If you do that, you will probably inadvertendly siign up for some recurring service on your phone bill that gives no value whatsoever. And you will never see that elusive gift card.

It"s a scam. They sound innocent but each time they ask a question they get a little more info from you that they can use. They are using Walmart"s name as it sounds innocent.

Just talked to Verizon. Forwarded the text message to them. They believe its a scam. They said if you return the call they know they've got a valid cell phone and then bill stuff to your phone.

Had the website wrong. Actual website is dealwizard.biz.wm. The last two letters makes me think its a foreign site.

Had Verizon block the number from my cell. Not going to bite on this phisy message!

I got the same msg about 2 weeks ago. Talked to a couple others that got it since. Scam. Bummer is they use up phone minutes too, and you didn"t ask for it.

Scam for sure. We get the exact same message about once a week. Must be working as they keep doing it.

BTW, we have friends who fell for the Granny Scam. Lost all their Christmas shopping money. And they're not stupid people, just too trusting and gullible.

Quite a few times I have gotten calls for a
lower interest rate on one of my Credit cards
, it starts with a recorded message then gives a
number to push a number on the phone pad for
more info. One time I called the number just
to find out what card it was for. I started to
ask questions, they were hard to get my card
number, I asked was this from the actual card
office. Then they got defensive claiming it was
legit (of course LOL)then I asked is this a
scam, I got the fastest dialtone ever.....Then
called the actual card office, said they didn"t
know anything about it. I still get these calls
even though I have my two phones on "DO NOT CALL"
and my sons cell phone too. I still get all
kinds of calls "NO CALL" or not.

i got the fastest

Welcome to the new phone spam. Forward it to 7726 if your at&t. Google noble text spam for other info and options.

Did some hunting. SCAM. Here's how its described: We want to alert you to a completely false offer that is being purported to be authentic. The scam offer starts off with a phone call from someone who is claiming to be a Walmart representative, or they may send you a text message. This person will claim to be calling as part of a Walmart customer appreciation program. You will then be asked for your personal information.

The ".wm" I believe indicates windows media content.

Stay clear.

Clear?

Hi Nancy. First question I would ask of myself, does or would Walmart or whoever have the home or cell phone number or email address for any reason, including texting? If so, I would contact Walmart. Actually, I think that I would contact Walmart and if at all possible, get from them an address to forward it to since you have already opened it. I don't use Ebay or Paypal, but when I get unsolicited stuff, always forward to "[email protected]", so maybe Walmart has something similar? Generally speaking, if I get anything from anyone in the postal mailbox or emailbox and I don't know who it is, it gets tossed or deleted. I don't even mess with it or them.

And by the way, you asked a few weeks back the name of a fella that scammed my mother for over $7,000 and a few people for something like $100,000, lost the case and then owed my mother and all, then filed for bankruptcy nulifying all of it, then moving to the Dallas area...Steve Butler from the Elkhart, IN. area. I think that either he or his wife was from that area originally. His scam was construction, taking people to the cleaners. Hope you never meet or have dealings with him, but if you do, give him one for my mother and a few others.

Good luck,

Mark

Nancy, I got the same message today about the $1,000 gift card from Walmart on my cell phone. I knew it was A scam. I am on AT&T. I just read it then close it.
Do you think AT&T will charge me for it.
Look like the scam is going around every where

"Actual website is dealwizard.biz.wm"

That's not a website, it's the name of a virus they're trying to get you to run. The .WM extension isn't a valid URL; Windows will try to run it as as a Windows Media or Windows Mobile file and probably infect you with something.

RUSM? That's incredibly bad advice. Get the sender's address from Nancy and YOU reply. Walmart isn't giving away $1000 to anybody. Reply and they have valid info started. Phone/email and whatever else. NEVER_NEVER_NEVER
reply to any offer to get free or cheap stuff.

Why not contact "walmart.com" and ask? $10,000 to your $1 they are not going to give you $1000. Do you really think someone not affiliated with Walmart telling you Walmart wants to give you $1000 is legit? Geez, want to buy some Florida condo shares?

Yep, phishy. I get those texts all the time. Also regularly get calls (though I am on the Do Not Call Registry) on my cell, home and work phones from "Rachel with cardholder services...this is your second and last opportunity to lower your interest rate". But the funny thing is, "Rachel" never mentions what company she is with. NEVER trust any text or phone call about anything "free" or any call asking for personal/account information.

And regarding phone calls - no bank or credit card company, nor the IRS, will call and ask you to give out your account/personal information - they contact you via letters. Only give out personal info of any sort (DOB, soc. sec. #, driver license number, etc.) when YOU are the one who has inititated the phone call and only when calling the number listed on one of your bills or bank papers. A motto to live by: "TRUST NO ONE"...works for me!

It's a scam. Never gone to the website but if each one was worth a $1,000 gift card I would have quit my job a long time ago. Been get'n one to three a week for the last year or so.
