Don"t realy need either but don"t have either - but have a little spare change.

1) Judge 45/410 $500 + tax

2) Ruger 380 LCP laser $370 + tax

PS: Live in Illinois (downstate) - The last state without concealed carry

I would go for the Judge 45/310 ,that way you could have lead for the mean ones , & rock salt for the ones that think that they are mean.
Once the Salt penetrates they start getting Smarter.

Neither would be very high on my list. That said, both would put a heap of hurt on someone intending on hurting you. Make sure you are legal whatever you get. Make sure you know to handle safely. Practice, practice, practice.

Tough call.

I have a Ruger .380 "Elsie P.", and it's a hoot. And dead on reliable.

However, for close quarters, or snakes, or whatever, the Judge makes a lot of sense. My dentist has one, but I don't.

The Ruger 22/45 Mark III is a nice one. My buddy shot mine today and just loved it. I'm looking at an SR9 Ruger now. The Judge is a nice one.
Remember once you buy one you'll buy a second one. So have patience.

You will be happy you got em.Just look closely to the fit of parts, NO EXTREME GAPS when assembled. Finish on the gun etc. Not to hi jack your post when I tell you I was so enthralled with my Son's Springfield Long Slide 1911 45 ACP Stainless Steel,I started hunting for a good model 1911. Hard to find any gun maker that had shipped to dealers around here.Found the (almost twin)SA 1911 45 ACP stainless 5"in a dealer from a almost remote area. Bought the gun and then the holster OWB .Got the gun so Victor can ccw in the summer months with just a shirt to conceal ,with out printing. I carry my Walther PPKS 380 with no problem. Now you will probably get the state to finally get the CC law passed.
Just remember safety first, know your weapon and practice practice practice. Know the law and Obey , I'm sure you will be more then happy. Best wishes and regards LOU.

Would depend on what you want it for. I think around the farm the Judge would be handy and easy to carry. For me most of the time would be loaded with 410 for critter control.

Just a plinker I'd go with the 380.

My personal pistols are a Ruger 22/45 for plinking and my 1911A1 45 ACP for CC.

If you blow money on the Judge, consider this.410 wads measure .410.The 45 barrel is bored .454.Lots of room for gas leakage. We know that rifling messes up the shot pattern.

The LCP is my daily concealed gun and it is great for that purpose. IMHO it is not a great plinkin gun as it has a pretty good "bite" to it. Its small and recoil is pretty sharp. Besides, 380 ammo is kinda spendy. Ruger 22/45 is awesome for plinking and 22 LR is cheap and fun. A Ruger SR9 would be a great daily shooter. I have 1000's of rounds thru mine with no hiccups. 9mm rounds are fairly inexpensive and a blast to shoot plus it has good stopping power if ya need it. I can't comment on the Judge.

If you are getting it for conceal, get the LCP, light and easy to carry. The judge is like a brick in your pocket.

I find my LCP has quite a bite to it. BUT... it is for carry, not target practice. Again, perfect for concealment.

If you have an exposed holster and are going to carry the judge that way around the farm etc, it would be ok in my opinion.

You being from Illinois don't know your gun laws, other than there super restrictive. I have a CPL, Michigan also is open carry technically if you don't have a CPL, but I wouldn't carry open. Not generally accepted.

My two cents. FWIW, you can still get a LCP for $319 at most places in Michigan.

I never could see the usefulness of hi capacity pistols. If you just 'may' need a gun, the sight of one usually does the trick. An over and under pocket model is nice, like carrying an extra cellphone or tape measure. If you are in an area with enough danger to need more than 5 or 6 bullets, a carbine or rifle would be barely good enough until you sell out and move away.

Find a friend with one or a gunshop/indoor range that rents these two or anything else that interests you to shoot before you buy. Takes longer, costs a lot less. Lou, I like your SS Springfield Armory choices. I like to use skateboard tape on the front side of the grip on my SA V-16. Whatever your choices, I agree with all who say: practice, practice, practice.

Just bought a .380 for concealed carry, shot the Ruger, Keltec, and the Taurus. Didn't care for the Keltec. The Rugers slide doesn't lock back after the last shot, but the Taurus does and is cheaper so that's what I purchased. I've put about 250 rounds through it so far and it fed everything except federal reliably. These little 380s do have quite a bite to them but not uncontrollable.

I carry a Bersa 380 for close to 15 years now and love it. A friend has a Judge but still carries a 380 or a 9mm. I have 10 handguns, they are like tractors, sometimes you "NEED" another one!

Out of those two, definitely the Ruger. Friend of mine got a judge when they first came out, he loaded it shot it and handed it to me. I load it pulled the trigger two times, two bangs, third time o pulled nothing! Looked at the shell, it did have a mark in the pimer, but it was light and almost off of the edge of the primer. Feed it some 45LC same thing. Stupid thing didnt fire the rest of the day. Sent it back to taurus and the hole that the firing pin slides in was machined to big, sent him a brand new one that works fine, but after that and having several other taurus revolvers that the cylinder lockup was about as tight as a gangsters pants you couldnt give me a taurus anything.

I bought a Ruger LCP with the "Crimson Trace" laser on it. There is one called "Laser Lyte" or something like that, that you have to turn on first. The Crimson Trace has a button below the trigger housing. When you squeeze the grip the laser is on. Let your grip loose and laser is off. Hard to see you in the dark. My $.02 worth.
