Fast plowing

Anybody find it ironic that Sweden holds this contest with black smoke blowing tractors within view of a green windmill.
 
Makes about as much sense as pulling, don't really prove anything and only serves to break expensive parts.

Another contestant, apparently the same time.
Ford was going so fast, he had the rear wheel off the ground in the turn.. Deere is plowing through standing water and mud. Seems pretty stupid and pointless to me.

Although I do agree with all the responses below, they do it because they can.

Makes about as much sense as car racing, climbing mountains, and sports events.

They don't need to be done to survive but we do it anyway.

Can you imagine 300 years ago if someone would have said lets put on a helmet, some other body pads, grab an oblong ball and beat each other to death to see who can get it across the other teams goal line the most.

Hobbies and sports.

That's because the Swedes know how to live in moderation. They know that a little smoke-bellowing here and there is okay, and fun.

The American mindset is that of absolutes. All or nothing. Can't have ONE cookie because you're on a diet. Can't have ANY fun because you'll tear up half an acre of land, or make some noise, or spill a drop of oil, or release some smoke into the atmosphere.

I've seen those before, I can understand someone making some kind of competition out of it, but to be honest, they're nuts, makes no sense to me at all, besides who wants to get bounced around in a cab like that with the possibility of turning over. Awful hard on that nice ole ford tractor.
 
I did that last spring right down here on the north side of the road. There's such a hard pan in that low spot by that big tree,it was like plowing slop in the concrete feedlot. I went like a bat out of hades and threw mud and water several feet.
 
Bah! He's got nothing on my White. I'd want an Oliver plow with the high speed bottoms though.
I noticed the big fan in the background to blow the smoke away. That IS what that's for isn't it?
 
You suppose the other fellows in the video went back behind him and did something meaningful? You couldn't plant grass seed in what he plowed. New procedure for No till?
 
Wow! That is sure fun to watch.

Looks like the operator has to be pretty sharp to avoid flipping the entire rig.

It truly is insane!! They ARE NOT thinking!!I couldn't stand to look at it for more than a few seconds!!

Only thing it proves is some people are truly stupid!!
 
It is funny how everyone is worked up about how stupid it is and how it is a waste of good equipment. But you will spend all day watching a tractor pull. At least these guys completed some work at the end of the day!

I loved how the sky just kept getting darker from the smoke. And also how the winner jumped out to kiss the wife and kids. Just like he got done winning the Daytona 500.
 
LOL, i'm at a loss here. i'm not sure if i'm offended or giddy with excitement. experience in this type of contest would seem to be the key to winning.
 
goverment must be paying for the equipment,anyone who buys with there own money Id hope to have more since than try to tear it up like that. Or more money than since. not cool, and dangerous too.
 
I was on the opposite end of the spectrum last fall. With the tough ground I was going so slow you had to alien me up with a background tree or something to even tell if I was moving.

Actually I think it is more fun than a tractor pull, same scenario - souped up tractor, speed, black smoke - but there is one on one competition and they are actually doing what a tractor does in real life....just at a speed we would all like to go if we could!
 
That is fun to watch someone pushing equipment to such extremes, similar to racing and pulling. Was there any prize money to help pay for the modifications and broken equipment?

Exactly.

It is a competition no different than tractor pulling, stock car racing, drag racing, auto X racing, etc. Build up a vehicle and see how fast you can get through the course.
 
Don't make assumptions. You'll never catch me at a tractor pull. That's just as boring and wasteful. Same for NASCAR,football, polka on TV, etc.

Entertainment? Who has time for entertainment?
