27 footer. How are they for lighter soils, some heavy black. 7" sweeps, will they work thought chiseld 170 bu corn stalks OK? How about untilled soybeans trash? Any weak spots I should inspect?

Hi Dave. I have one. I narrowed mine down to 24.5 ft. so I could pull it with my 110 horse. Very good cultivator. Lots of trash capacity with the 5 rows of shanks. One thing to check is the shanks for ware. Grab hold of the ones behind the tractor duals and yank them side to side to see how much the bolt and eye is worn. The 4600 does not have replaceable bushings in the shank. It has a 5/8 bolt that you can replace to get rid of some of the play. The 4800 has a 1/2 bolt with replaceable bushing. Only you can decide how much side slop you can live with. How much they want for it? I gave $4500 for mine last April and it needed all shovels replaced. The tires are excellent on mine and very little ware on shank side play.

I don"t know what number IH my renter has, but it is a late model. His issue is the shovels ripping up the tires- typically a couple or more each season. Not sure how they can run so close- he is fussy on maintenance. I had an issue with my 24 foot Wilrich when getting stuck, backing up and the tandem would flip over, letting the shovel rip the tire. Turned out a weldment (stop) was cracked and pushed back. Can"t see the same thing on the renters tho. Other poster mentioned loose shank mtgs- so typical of earlier IH 45 FC. I would stay away from machines without replaceable bushings.

No they do not. Just had mine apart 10 days ago and replaced some of the bolts. Also, though it looks like a regular 5/8 carriage bolt, it is not. Take one out and you will see it has a specific head. Available from Case $11.20 each.

They are asking $7500. Tires fair to good. Has good harrow on it. Some new shovels, some good shovels and a few that should be replaced. I would say they are about 14% over priced. Paint, hoses, cylinders all good. Didnt find any welds. Shanks all seem tight.

That's odd,my neighbor has an IH 4600 and it has replaceable bushings like mine, because I have replaced some of them!
