cummins oil pr.

I have a 1998 dodge 1 ton with cummins and auto, when it get's warmed up the 15 40 oil goes below 40 psi and the busser goes on. I know the oil pr. dosen't go below 25 lb's with a real gage. Is it a bad preasure swith or to light oil.It has 145000 miles on it. Thank's in advance.

Well it should not go below 40 PSI even at ideal with that few miles on it . Don't know who's oil your usen . myself i run Delo 400 15-40 and i hold 45 lbs. on my 95 , my buddy has a 01 and he is wright at 40 hot and he runs Case I H #1 15-40 . If you are dropping oil pressure like that i would (1) be looking into maybe fuel dilution due to leaking injectors , leaking fuel pump past the seal. (2) premature bearing failure , (3) bad senor (4) oil pump failure . And just how far do you have it cranked up , Ya start cranking them up you take away the life of the engine . Been seeing a lot of the young guys around here that have them wound tight with there five inch exhaust bigger charges and programmers maxed out keeping the guy down the street really busy with transmission repairs clutch jobs and engine rebuilds.

I agree with tractor vet. My 99 doesn't drop to 25 even at idle. I suggest a few of the dodge forums but the pressure switch is a good candidate. for example, http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/94-98-powertrain/461382-wacky-oil-psi.html

The rpm is at 650, I think it's a little low.I don't see easy way to speed it up. You can idel it to 700rpm and the presure stays up.The gage dose not stop at any thing less then 40 . Just down to 40 then all the way to 0. Real preasure is at 30 hot slow idel. Thanks.
