long tractors

Long is long gone. Some parts can be had, some are impossible to get. people avoid them like the plague in my neck of the woods. Leylands are non existant in my part of the word.

I think both were OK tractors in their day- Long a little better than Leyland, I think- but their "day" was 30 years ago, and with the difficulty in getting parts now, I guess I'd steer clear, unless the particular one(s) your looking at are in really good shape.

Our experience with the 3 Leylands that we have had over the years is that they are a good no frills tractor. The engines last a very long time. There is still one "344" that was bought new on the farm> It has about 10k hours on it.

a lot of the small oliver & ac's were the same tractors basically, they were made in romania if i remember correct by fiat, parts may still be available for them that will work on certain models of the longs don't now about the larger longs if any one else used them or not,if you want to see a modern version of them just walk behind the newer mid range nh & cih the rear end and final drives are unmistakable

longs are junk. got one with 1000hrs on it and put 10hrs on it after i bought it and started pouring oil out the blow by tube. opened it up and had 2 bad pistons. havent finished putting it back together from 12yrs ago. long 610 btw. some other company makes parts for them almost the same color they are made in kerea. cant remember name.

(quoted from post at 21:45:23 03/28/12) How good are long tractors? Also leyland tractors? Are most parts avalabe for these tractors?
Thanks Howard

I've got one. A long 510. It is a good little tractor. Starts good in cold, good power, etc. But I don't know about parts support or longevity. It is user friendly though even compared to the newer name brand tractors.

Some Long parts are not available anymore. The Leyland parts can be hard if it is a model that was only made for them. Many of their tractors where just re-badged Romania Fiats.

Unless either of these tractors where dirt cheap I would pass on them.

I have had several Longs and they are good tractors. They are just like any other tractor, if you buy one used that is worn out, you will pay to keep it running. In Meadville, Pa their is a business that imports parts and has a very good inventory. I have a 900 that has served me well for 25 years. They are fuel sipers, easy to start with power to spare. Leylands are way old though. I think they were mostly bought by construction companies and townships for road work.

Is that WTP, or is there someone else I don't know about???
