What to charge to disc

A neighbor wants to pay me to disc 140 acres. What is a fair price to charge? This is in central Indiana.

The range for Iowa is $10 to $20 an acre.

I would assume the high rates are for small fields and small jobs.

The lower rates are large field, good conditions, jobs.

One-140 acre field? Or ten-14 acre fields? I charge $65/hour. That way it does not matter what size fields. Oh and mine is for a 16 ft. disk.

Mine is a 16ft disc and the biggest field I think is 40acres the smallest are 3acre the rest are in between. I'm gonna use my Oliver 1850 diesel.

Use IaGary"s acre rate as a start. How many passes will you have to do? With an older machine you may not be able to do it fast enough to make it worth your while using a per acre price. I have old Olivers too, and I would not want to disc 160 acres for $1600. I"d take a stab at how many hours it would take, figure up your fuel, and then compare that to the acre rate.
