Lift arm ball

So I found several places that have the Oliver cat II lift arm ball for 5$ to 8$ so I called the agco dealer today and they want 28$ per ball????? What a difference. So why do you think there is a huge price gap????

Economics.
AGCO is in the business of selling new tractors, but they know there are people who still want to keep the old stuff running.
So to keep those kind of customers happy they make a lot of parts available that they would ordianrily just obsolete if they charged their regular price mark up on them.

Lots of manufacturers do that.

I'd be pretty hesitant to put a 5 or even an $8 lift ball on any of my tractors.Just ain't worth the safety risk or aggravation of having to return a cheap ball that wasn't hardened correctly if at all.

Yes the AGCO ones are more expensive, but ya only need two of 'em and in general, you get what you pay for..................

I sell mine for $25/pair plus shipping. Like Brad says though, those cheap ones aren't hardened right. I've been down that road and that's why I made my own and sell them.

BradK is absolutely right, don't waste your time and money on a set of cheepo lift arm balls. The AGCO ones are hardened and machined accurately. I made this huge mistake after misplacing my good ones and it cost me a PTO yoke and bent shaft on my large flail mower. They are soft junk and will slip out of the arm when worn slightly.

I will also tell you that the cheapo ones are not worth taking home. I had some soft ones on my discbine that didn't last the season. I now use the ones that Don makes & you can't see any wear on them & this is after a couple season's use.

I have a Oliver 1655. I don't trust any of the balls to hold side ways. I have lost too many three point implements with it. I made a big washer that will fit on the out side of the lift arm and around the three point pin. So if the ball tries to come out the washer will stop it.

You got to remember that the newest of those type of lift arms are 30-40 years old and worn. I never trust them to latch and hold.

Went to the local dealer for I believe the same thing you are talking about. Buddy that works there told me to go get the ones outta the bin @ 3 bucks each. Said he had some in dusty boxes with names on them for 23 bucks for the diehards, but the 3 buck ones are what they put on all new and used equipment that leaves thier place..... If your hooks aren't wallered out, the balls shouldn't matter......
