I have a acetylene tank valve that is very hard to open. I don't like to mess with the packing nut. I know oil is not to be used around oxygen. What about if I put a small drop of oil on the packing nut of the valve on my acetylene tank? Or just live with it until I exchange it. Stan

Don't put ANYTHING on it! Take it back to the supplier and have them give you another cylinder or let them fix the valve. Cylinders aren't something to mess around with.

I had a problem with an acetylene tank valve that wouldn't close. The supplier took it back no questions asked. This was a "purchased" tank, which around here means you exchange it.

Agree with others. However I think the oil caution is primarily for oxidizers which could cause the oil to become an instant fire hazard under the right conditions.

I've had oxygen tanks like that. Keep some kind of cheater handy and live with it til you exchange it.

Just bring it back, it is their packing that is doing that, don't mess with it- or break it! They will give you another.
