Today's Gun Auction

Not trying to hi jack the thread, but was wondering if you had the same kind of junk in the gun auctions that appear in gun shows? We just finished going to 2 gun shows and mostly what we found was worn out junk firearms and alot of reloaded ammo, old army clothing etc. Even a WWI helmet, and it looked like it was run over by a tank, only wanted $150.00 for it.Just wondering. Thanks, LOU

I haven't been to a gun show in quite a while. Similar experience; too much para-military stuff and too many guys interested in showing not selling. We have one auctioneeer that gets very good prices for guns at sales.

Kinda the same thing here with the gun shows.

Auctions with guns here are kinda funny. Every one and their brother owns guns around here which is not saying they know anything about them. I have never seen a gun sell at auction around here at or below market value to the point that owners of gun shops don't attend.

Around here gun auctions are pretty much all sporting arms. Good quality guns that have been taken care of hold their value. Guns that were cheap when new go cheap used.

Amusing incident at gun auction: Local pawn shop got in trouble and got their gun license lifted. I suspect some entrapment by the ATF but don't really know. Anyway, they sold out their stock of guns by selling them on paper to an auction house, perfectly legal, then auctioning them in person and on line. I went partly for curiosity and partly to bid on a savage 17HMR. I knew the price of them new and quit bidding when the bid started approaching new price.
The shop had and old Polish Radom which was designed and used in Poland before World War II, and then used by the Nazis during the war. This one was beat up and looked like it had been picked up off the battlefield during the war. I would not have fired it on a bet, and had no interest in buying it. It had been recently chromed or nickled and looked nice, from a distance. At the auction no one in person bid very much for it, but someone on line was taken by the shiney finish and paid a big price for it.

Tom, here you see anything from junk to very nice guns. But if you grade them and then look up the market price.....well most folks here will add at least a hundred dollar tip at auction......
