jus thinkin... several yrs ago maybe 20+. i bought a used cub cadet for use as a mower,, it seems like it was a rather large unit..i cant remember the model. had problem of the deck choking up in medium high grass.. my question is what was the largest model made/horsepower etc.

That's a pretty open question.

If you bought it new, and it was an IH it would have been one of the Super Garden Tractors. I don't recall what they topped out at HP wise.

They also had an option for a Kubota diesel but that was only avaible in the GT frame, at least when CC was still an IH asset.

as mentioned it depends on the cud cadet, back years ago there was a cub cadet made that was only a little smaller than a regular cub lowboy, i think it may have even used the same engine i remember seeing ads for it, the later mtd made ones from china go to about 24hp, or supposedly so, those motors were overrated and actualy made less hp when tested, the real problem is the decks get choked on tall stuff, if you look at something like the ihc deck i run on my regular cub, it is open on 3 sides, the cut grass can then get out, and it doesnt leave a winrow, or a middle stripe either, ive mowed grass almost as tall as the hood of the cub with it,.... then they had to improve it, now the riding mowers today dont do well at all in anything but a manicured lawn that was mowed a week ago

yes your right about the size i remember it being a rather big one, but , since you mentioned it i could have bought a loboy, anyhow i was so mad about the mower deck and its problems i got rid of it fairly soon afterwards.. thanks for the replies

Ya gotta look at the product. The Cub was a nice little tractor, lowboy or rowcrop. Bellymowers are not bush hogs. They're finishing mowers. The original Cub Cadet was a cub transmission with a Kohler engine, and configured to be a L&G tractor, and was an excellant little machine. The later Cadets into the early nineties pretty much followed suite, until the name was bought by MTD. Like Toro with the Wheelhorse, they quickly turned a good name into a piece of junk.

Was it yellow and white, or Red ?
My red 782 was one of the last ones built by International Harvester there is also the biggest of that era a 982 just one size before what we call the CUT tractor today or compact version.

If correct deck was on the correct tractor and you weren't trying to mow too fast never had much problem plugging unless grass was too wet. Today's mowers, decks run at a much higher rpm is the reason they seem to cut better.

well thanks for the info..i remember it running very good but maybe i was not using it as it was made to do

thanks for the picture, mine was yellow and white, man what a nice one you got there..

First time I mowed my yard with our CC 102 I was into jimsonweed that was over my head while I'm sitting on the tractor, it just chewed it up and spit it out like no one's business. Of course I had the deck up high so I rough mowed it once and then came back with the deck lower.

that was the only cub cadet/loboy i have ever owned.. not sure which it was i do remember it being a large unit and it was painted yellow and white only kept about 3 months
