What's a John Deere 4240 High Crop worth

I have a 1981 John Deere 4240 High Crop with a syncro transmission that I am thinking of selling. It runs real good but could use a paint job. Everything works. Any idea what it is worth? Is it rare?

I'd guess the syncro is fairly rare but I don't think John Deere tracked the numbers so it might be hard to substantiate if it is rare or not. Maybe others would have a better price guess

If somebody has enough money to do what they want with it and has always wanted a high crop why would it make them a fool?

being the high crop is what would make it rare. only a small area of the country used high crop tractors but it seems as tho most people in those areas do not think they are rare because that is what is in their small area but looking at the country as a whole there were very few high crops ever made of any make or model so yes a high crop is rare. the standard tread is the same way but there were at least 4-5 times as many of them made as the high crop but way less than the row crops.

I realize high crop is rare. I just wonder how rare the syncro transmission was by 1981 when my tractor was made. I would guess the quad range was the most popular by then. For example, I know 2520's with power shift for example are worth way more than syncro.

When I bought my fully restored 4230 with a factory paint job and new cab interior, new rubber around, new AC compressor and currently used freon and 3900 hrs for $17k, the guy had a 4240, turbo'd 4230 with 25 more horses, redone like mine, with 9300 hours on it for $19k. I took the 30 and didn't regret it.
