I got my sprayer built! (pics)

I built this out of stuff I rounded up and only had to buy the tips and hoses! What do you think?

Looks like it could work.

Couple of things to ask.

Do you have a pressure gauge somewhere?

What chemicals are spraying you may need some type of agitation to the tank?

Gary

Spray bar looks awful close to the ground. Better check your spray pattern to see if they overlap or you will be just spraying in rows.

I had 2 more pictures but they must not have loaded! The arms are 21 inches off the ground and the tips are 20 inches apart. I asked for advice on here a few weeks ago and I built from the advice! I had a pressure gauge on it and it cought on my pant leg as I walked by and broke it off. I will get another one. Will be spraying roundup and 2-4-D

I think your going to learn the same lesson I did. It will work good on short grass in the yard and not so good in taller stuff in the field. 16-18" is about the minimum height to get good coverage between the tips. If you're pulling it throught 8-12" stuff it will not cover properly and apply in strips. I had to go back and re-make the booms so I could adjust the height 18" to almost 4 foot.

Along with the agitation issue- I noticed a roller pump. Again, it"s a chem issue with them. Some cannot handle modern chems.

thanks--it give me some type of idea on how to make a set-up just to water my big back yard, 100x300, instead of hauling hose and sprinkler head, that way i can ride my little tractor around and not be bothered,,lol

Pretty slic! Just watch it near the fence lines. The booms are fence wire magnets! You might want to rotate the booms 90° and hook a sping across the fixed to movable sections to make them "breakaway".

the one thing i'll add is that you might want to add a pressure regulator and a return line. that way you get at least some minimal agitation, and if i'm not mistaken roller pumps do *not* like to be dead-headed. looks nice though.

Looks great! I saved the pics so I can build one like it if I need it. The guys saying the boom is too low may be right, but that will be an easy fix.

Sprayer looks great. Don't know if the boom is too close to the ground our not. Ours is only about 20 inches from the ground. We keep it low (have tips with proper spray pattern) to reduce drift. Tips are not pointed straight down, but at maybe a 45 angle to the ground.

It is important that your tips be a standard width apart because this is part of the calculation in calibrating your sprayer.

We built our own boom, but it doesn't fold up. James, if he reads this, can post a pic.

If you use that pump for Roundup, make sure you flush it really well. Even then I din't think ir will last long spraying RU. Hy Vee makes a special roller pump for RU but it's quite spendy.
I have a slightly used HyVee in a box if you need one.

I always flush our tank then refill with enough clear water to flush all chemical from the pump, lines & spray tips.

It looks like you got the right idea so far. I would add a pressure regulator and redesign your boom so you can regulate the height of it depending upon what you are spraying. You may want to consider a valve with a hand spray attachment to make it a little more versatile. Just some helpful comments and a few things you may want to consider.

Justin:

I'm looking to do something similar. That's a nice
bit of design & fabrication you've done there. Where
did you find the tank?

Jeff
