Pressure washer recommendations

I have been looking for a while for a pressure washer that I can use to clean up logs before milling and for cleaning out the chicken coop and such periodically. I have read various opinions about whether they are long lasting or dependable. I am looking at either buying used or a cheap new one, like from Harbor Freight. Is either of these a good idea or should I just continue to do without? Any advice will be much appreciated.

Wish you were close.. Have 10 used troy Built units. City bought them last spring when we had the masive flood. Used just a few days to clean park benches ec. Most are like new. I would not waste my money on the Harbor freight ones. I do buy cheap wrenches there and even throw away battery chargers but the little 89 dollar electric washer never lasted long. I have a lt40 woodmiser mill and washing is necessary IF you drag your logs. we use a loader and try and not get mud on the logs.

Sounds like an interesting story on the 10 units, seems like they could have bought 5 and taken twice as long but that is how it goes. I am 40 miles north of Syracuse, NY. I mostly don't have to clean up my own logs but when other people bring me their logs to saw they can be pretty bad, and sometimes I get mine dirty when I have to skid them to where I can load them.

Hey Zack, I use a pressure washer lots. when your lookin around for one try to get something that has 3000lbs and 3 to 4 gallons per minure. The volume of water is just as important as the pressure

Something with a three piston ceramic pump made by CAT or Comet. That way domestic hot water can be supplied to the washer and used without damage.
Once you have used a hot water washer you won't care for a cold water system.

Buy a Karcher pressure washer that heats the water. When they outlawed our steam jenny at work we were given a Karcher to use to see if we liked it. We bought one from them. Instead of buying through the US Government we made the purchase through one of our government contractors. That was 25 years ago and I think they're still using it. We used K1 kerosene in it and their detergent. Hal

Don't waste your time with Harbor Freight pressure washers.

The only reason to buy Harbor Freight is price, and their pressure washers aren't any cheaper than the ones you can get at Home Depot or Lowes. Even on sale, the prices aren't anything to write home about.

Box store pressure washers LOOK like they're much better units than HF's.

I have a 13 hp honda power Excell commercial 3700 psi. It's built to last. If I were looking for another, I would look for honda power. I don't think they would put a cheap pump on a honda. Could be wrong. The newer commercials are rated at 4000 psi. You should be able to almost remove the bark with that pressure and a rotary nozzle.

I have a way to purge all the air and dirt out of the garden hose before I put the water to the pump. Both will damage any pump.

As for cleaning a chicken coop, I would run the other way. Just found out that I have histoplasmosis, a fungal infection in my lungs from chicken poop. Thought I had the flu. Found out I have many tiny spots in both lungs from the infection. It's very difficult to get rid of it too. RUN FOREST RUN, away from chickens. Take all the precautions you can.
