I am having to replace my staarter for my tractor. I need to know if the motor turns counter-clockwise or clockwise. I would
appreciate any help on this.

Virtually all tractor engines turn the same way when viewed from the same direction. From the drivers seat(pto end) it will turn CCW. Viewed from the from front, CW.

Folks get confused on this 'cause some makers turn the engine around, so that the PTO is toward the front, like Cub Cadet, others drive the mower from the other end, like Case 2xx/4xx garden tractors.

If the starter is from a Stationary engine, it might have been mounted toward the front. In which case it is going to turn wrong. If from a tractor it will be fine. Jim

REbuilder will know if the spring winds differently. One time I went to buy spring and was sold wrong one. Mine was different. 48 cub not lowboy. Dave

If it is the standard gear drive as was used on cubs, it turns CW viewed from the shaft end. If it is the belt drive that some of the number cubs used, I do not know, but then engine turns CW viewed from the front, so you should be able to figure it out by how it mounts.
