whatever you do, DO NOT GO DOWN A HILL IN UNDERDRIVE!!!!! as it will freewheel (speed up) and you will end up with a crash course, literally!

Need some more infomation. Does it have hydual shift? That's the 3 spedd extra transmission.
Actually there should be a gear pattern on the shift knob, that covers the main transmission then there is a lever by the throttle that is the "extra" transmission, if it's the 3 speed that will provide 20% under--straight through or 20@ over. There is no engine braking in under.
Some of those 50 series had 2 speed transmission, I've never had one so don't know how they work.

2 speed "Hydra-Power" was the same- no engine braking in under. Found out when I drove the 1550 home from up on the hill where the guy unloaded it- put 2 and 2 together pretty fast (it didn't start freewheeling until I pulled that little knob out), so pushed it back in, pronto, and everything was fine.

Everything else is pretty straightforward- shift pattern takes a little getting used to, but put it in a low gear and putt around a little while experimenting, before you road it.

The free-wheeling in underdrive is probably the only "secret" to worry about. Pretty straight forward otherwise. Not sure exactly which Farmalls and Fords you've run but the Oliver has independent pto, just push the lever forward to engage, no clutching needed.

Best thing you can do is ask him for the owners manual, and then study it. You will learn way more than what can be conveyed here.

The over/under seems to operate similarly to a Farmall's TA, specifically the mechanical TAs you find on 400's and 560's and the like.
