Remember seeing brochure from Versatile around 1980 on the Big Roy. Still around? Guess it is eclipsed, at least in HP by Big Bud?

That tractor never went into production because no one built any equipment that big. It's sitting in a museum in Manitoba, could be Brandon.

There was plenty of equipment around for Big Roy. Steiger and Big Bud both made tractors using the same engine as Big Roy ie around 650 hp. The trouble with Big Roy was the tandem axles on both ends did not turn smoothly and kind of wrinkled up the ground like a skid steer loader. It also came out a little late, by the late 1970's the big tractor deal was over and all had settled on the 350 - 400 hp range. Horsepower is creeping up again now but now with larger radial low pressure tires and is some cases triples to keep soil compaction down. You've never really farmed until you shove the throttle ahead on 600 horsepower and watched the soil moving on a 70 foot strip!
