Computer problem again

OK,so I ran that Malwarebytes. Found over 300 infected files. Supposedly fixed it,but it didn't. I still had websites showing up on the history that I hadn't been to. Neighbor woman has a masters degree in this stuff,so the wife took it to her. She worked on it for 6 hours. She had to completely wipe out everything, saved as many files as she could, pictures, documents, accounting, that kind of stuff.
Now,the font is entirely different,I can live with it,found the box to change the print size so I can read it without my glasses.
The problem, things are missing from the toolbar. I need to know how to get them back if I can. I tried F11,but that just makes it even smaller and I loose what I have up there. I used to have a box for spell check. It's gone. There was a google search bar. Gone. A yellow star for history folder. Gone.
Does anybody know if I can or how to get any of it back?

OK,did that. A box popped up with some options, but spell check and google search weren't among the choices. There's a search icon up there already, but it goes to Bing. I'm more concerned about getting spell check back so I don't look like such a bad speller on here, but is there a way to get back to Google search instead of Bing?

It would help to know which operating system you have and which brouser you are using. There is an ICON shaped like a gear in the upper right of your screen. Click on that and then on internet options and change the web address from BING to GOOGLE.

Windows XP Professional,Microsoft Internet Eplorer. Not seeing a gear shaped icon in the upper right corner.

OK,I found a way to change to Google instead of Bing. It's not the easy search bar that used to be on here, but it works.

Now,does anybody know how to get the spellcheck back?

Since you're reloading stuff anyway consider a different browser. I prefer Firefox with the Adblock extension, it removes most of the garbage advertising from websites.

On mine, I right click on the tool bar that has "File Edit View Favorites Tools Help" a menu pops up. I click on "Command Bar" and the IESpell program is one of the items on this bar........

When I right click on it all I have are "standard buttons","address bar","links" and "lock the toolbars". There's nothing there like that either when I left click File,Edit,View,Favorites,Tools or Help either. Guess you guys will have to put up with my bad spelling from now on.

Long winded process, but I think I got it. Doesn't work like the old one did,but it's there anyway.

A couple things you can do as preventive measures against the next time:

1. Get a second hard drive. You can find Western Digital 1.5T drives for about $150. Create a "Documents" folder(or some such) on this drive. Right-click on your "My Documents" icon in Windows, select "Properties". There will be an option to move the folder; put it in the newly created "Documents" folder on the external drive. You still access it the same way, but since all your info is on the external drive, you won't be scrambling to salvage it the next time your OS is wiped out.

2. As soon as you make all your tweaks and get everything you want back on the pc, run Malwarebytes and a full virus scan. Once the machine is 100% clean and organized, do a full backup and save it on the USB drive also. Would be wise to backup your bookmarks occasionally also.

I use AVG Free Edition and have had only two problems in the last several years. I also use CCleaner from Piriform to clean up all the cookies, history, etc.

I suspect you had Google Toolbar and it got wiped. Go to http://Download.cnet.com/windows/ ,
type "Google Toolbar" in the search box in the upper right hand corner, then download it again.

VernMI wanted you to try the "tools"( gear icon ) on the far right end of the bar directly above this screen, my XP Professional has it there. An alternative way to change the default search engine is to right click on your Internet Explorer Icon on your desktop, left click "properties", on the "General" page about halfway down will be "search", left click on "settings" and switch the default search engine.

Good luck

It has an icon on the toolbar now instead of a search bar. When I click the icon,a box comes up down the left side of the screen. I clicked "change preferences" and got it to google. Just not as convienient to go through all that as it was to just click it on the toolbar and start typing, but it works.
This whole thing has been a nightmare.
