I didn't want to hy-jack the other post.
Speaking of Maple trees, We have a 8N we use for hay rides at the working farm museum that is parked under the trees (for shade).
Does anyone know what will take the black crud off of the sheet metal? Thanks

A friend of mine gave me some 3M stuff that they use in his body shop. They use it for detailing and cleaning off tar and bugs and stuff off of paint.

Maybe giving a body/paint shop a call and see what they say. ...since I can't remember the name of it.

Don't know about your stuff, but HEET the stuff you put in a gas tank really works on removing the glue after taking of letter that I had put on my truck.

use a wax and grease remover like pre-cleano, final wash, ect . paint and body shop supply stores sell it by the gallon.

Jim, Have tried Simple Green and they also make a concentrated one that works very good, give it shot, it worked for me. If it is really stubborn try Dirtex in a spray can, should be able to find both in you local paint or hardware store.

After you get it cleaned up, put a good slick coat of wax on it. It will be easzier to clean up next time if it's waxed.

I used to leave an aluminum boat stored upside down in my back yard. I got sap dripping from both maple and oak trees. When I wanted to clean it up I used a degreaser liquid that I bought from Sam's Club in gallon jugs for about five dollars. It was a purple color stuff. Spray the degreaser on full strength with a spray bottle, let it sit for a few minutes, then hose it off with a sponge. Please note that it will also remove wax and might damage some decals.
