5303 JD tractor

I have a 5303 dsl tractor with 420 hrs on it and when running full speed it has started to sporadically lose rpm's. went to the dealer and they had another model in shop doing same thing and can't figure out why. The fuel primer buton started leaking so i replaced the primer cap, replace the fuel filter twice and drained the tank. Still does it.sometimes when it starts fluttering and losing rpm's it will pass a puff of blue smoke and when it is not blue it smells the fuel. Can someone help me out here on what to do next. have changed the air filters also. where do i start next? Thanks.

I think it has a small rotary pump. If it does sounds like the return line check valve is stopping up with waxy cruddy fuel. I see where JD has a fuel conditioner they are selling. I have drained the filter and filled it with Howells fuel conditioner straight. On older tractors we just knock this check valve out. This one should be under warranty.

Does yours have an electric transfer pump on it ?

My 5105 didn't have any transfer pump so I added one. Really helps with bleeding out the air. Should help prevent fuel starvation esp. on hills too.

I have a 5303 with 1900 hours on it. It is used quite a bit during the summer. It is my primary tractor. I have had all the problems you are listing. The cure I have found is to put an inline fuel filter in the fuel line coming out of the tank. I put mine about 4 inches from the tank. If you would like the number (Wix filter) I can look and email you later.

Now to your current problem. You have water or gunk in your fuel system. Drain the bottom of the "water seperator" and put some disel fuel conditioner in the tank. IF you have any quesiton my email is open

One more note, I change the inline filter at least every six months. If I get any symptons earlier I change it more often.

I work for a deere dealership and have many of those models that have a lot of water in the tanks. Also i have seen a few of them with cracked fuel line from the tank that let air into the fuel system. Does it start hard also or not. Check your fuel if it is old fuel it could be going bad.

I added an inline filter and then the electric pump down line from that but before the main fuel filter. I also ran all new fuel hoses too.

the fuel is less than a month old. I will check the fuel line. another thought is it only does it at wide open throttle, you drop to 1/2 or3/4 sprrd and runs smooth. I realize this makes it fuel delivery problem but bout to pull the last few hair out that i have. Thanks all for the help so far.
