I use my Dodge to haul my mowing tractor. Every now and then when I start to move foreward after sitting for a few weeks it doesn't move foreward for a few seconds the motor just races, then it moves. I did a trans service a while back and there was no metal in the pan. Any thoughts? Stan

The converter drains back on Dodges when they sit that long. The converter won"t refill until shifted out of park. I advise customers to idle a few seconds in neutral before shifting to drive, that will stop your problem.

to add a question to your thread, is that a problem on all dodge"s,,,i have a 2004 dually cummings/auto 6-sp, just bought it 6-months ago, havn't noticed yet, has 67xxx miles..

Chrysler had a fix for that problem. They made a kit that had a cooler line with a check valve in it, to stop the converter from draining. I would suggest checking with a old time Chrysler parts man. If yours already has the kit, check and see if it is hanging open. If you can't find one, I have a friend who has been in Chrysler parts for thirty years. I'm sure I could get you a part number.

Like the others have said, sounds like torque converter drain back. TransGo has a kit for this problem alone, and "reprogramming" (not electronic) kits to improve shifting and other demons. Did the TF2 kit in my "72 Polara with A727, very nice. Shifts firm like my "79 Mercedes Diesel.

Don"t know how far back this problem goes, but at least to the early 60"s aluminum TorqueFlites. Torque converter circuit is also cooling and lubrication on these boxes. When in park, the flow is restricted, but in neutral it is not. Idle in neutral and it will pump up quick. When these transmissions are used in applications where the vehicle sits in park and high idle, like carpet cleaners and service trucks, the transmission fail from lack of lubrication.

Probably this problem is from the early days when TorqueFlite did not have a park position. Had to redesign the valve body to allow for park when they went away from push buttons.
