O/T 32/20 ammo

About a month or a month and a half ago , I had asked about where I could find 32/20 ammo and some of you kind fellas gave me some websites to check out . I had checked out a couple and thought I had made some notes on my findings , but I'll be damned if I can find them now . I was lucky enough to buy the rifle at an auction
and with spring now not too far away ,I'd like to find some ammo . Would you fellas please repost those sites for me Thank you very much,
Glenn

Is that the same as 32S/W if it is I got a box of it at an auction about a week ago and have nothing to use it in. Came in a box of ammo I got cheap. When I mean a box of ammo I mean lots of mixed shells in the box and enough to be worth 5 times what I payed for it

Hey Old, will you please email me at [email protected] ? I"m needing some SW 32 ammo both - shorts & longs .My Grandson & his girlfriend shot every one I had stocked up & now I can"t find any . Pistols no good against home invaders without ammo .Thanks & God bless, Ken

Looked thru Cabelas catalog. No 32-20.The have Remington 25-20 at 64 bucks for a box of 50 so you can expect to pay the same when you find some. You were told that ammo would be a problem before you bought the rifle. The trajectory figures are bad. When sighted in at 50 yards the bullet will be down 115 inches at 300 yards.

I reload my own. Maybe you should look at doing that. It"s easy to do and would cost less in the long run if you shoot much.

My late dad and my late father-in-law had one of those rifles. Both were lever action. I may still have a few cartridges from those rifles. My FIL shot a lot of deer with his in Perry county PA. I still have one of those buck deer heads mounted that he killed in 1938. He was a crack shot with his 32-20 rifle. Hal

I just done a search at

www.search.com

typing this as the search phrase

ammunition cal 32-20

and got a whole page of sites, with all weights of loads, and many stores that have it absolutely no problems finding ammo. Just do the search and see.

No, Old, 32 S&W and also 32 S&W Long are not the same as the 32-20. The 32-20 is a very good high powered pistol cartridge but the ammunition makers down load it because of the number of old guns chamberd for it. One has to reload it for use in a rifle or modern pistol like the Ruger Blackhawk to get it's full capabilities. I think it's somewhat less powerful than a 357 magnum when both are fired in a rifle.

Try Midwayusa.com. They are a family owned business in Mo., or ask around at a gun shop that caters to Cowboy Action Shooting enthusiasts. They may have it, or might order it for you.

Midway has 6 loads listed. Buffaloarms.com has a load as well--it's a cowboy load but might work for you. They've got .32 S&W short too, Ken!

Ok I understand how that can be. I too own a gun or 2 that is next to impossible to find ammo for. One I have never found ammo for and the only way I know to be able to fire it is if I make my own ammo. It is a 8X54 A WW2 German gun

My local gun store carries 32-20.says a lot of cowboy shooters use it. I also bought a box at L.L.Bean in Maine this summer. as I remember it was about $45 a box of 50

Can't find 8 x 54 in cartridge books or in Nonte's Guide to Cartridge Conversions. That gun must have an interesting history.

It is a Styer straight pull bolt German WW2 rifle. I have it hanging on the wall with a small American flag in the barrel. I could make rounds for it by necking up the Russian 7.62X54 using a lebel die set but that straight pull bolt makes me think it is better on the wall then being shot

8x56R Steyr Model 95. New ammo, brass and bullets are available from Grafs. Lee makes dies sets and boolit moulds. Easy to load, effective, great hunting rifle as is. But you need the clip's.

The 32-20 was never intended to be a 300 yard cartridge. It's a small game and varmint cartridge from the 1880's.

The lack of knowledge and assumptions made here is stupefying sometimes.

What's stupefying are the responses suggesting purchasing a bunch of expensive reloading equipment all for want of a couple boxes of ammo to make a $100 gun go bang once in a while.

I mean, if you've already got a reloading press it's a matter of buying the dies that's one thing. If you don't reload to begin with, and you don't plan on shooting the h#ll out of the gun... What's the point?

It has the poorest trajectory of any cartridge made.It was made for the Winchester 73.Its a poor choice for a hunting gun.Its actually a 31 caliber so bullet choice is limited.Cabelas has just about any cartridge but no 32/20.

You can buy a lee loader for 10 bucks. My first Lee press and dies cost 39 bucks.I started loading shotshells with a Pioneer loading tool that cost 4.50 post paid.Theres a certain amount of pride that comes from loading ammo thats more accurate than factory ammo.My son uses a small Lee press that sells for 20 bucks now.Ive bought used Lee loaders for 5 bucks at gun shows.Your gun cost more than 100.00 and the only ammo Ive seen is 65 bucks a box.Starline sells 32/20 brass, primers cost 3 cents,a powder charge will cost 3 cents and a bullet will cost 5 cents.so reloading a case will cost 11 cents a shot.A factory box will cost 69 bucks with 8% sales tax.1.38 a shot.

New brass for the 32/20 cost 20 cents each and can be reloaded many times if you are careful.Primer, powder and a lead bullet will cost 11 cents.

Bullet choice is limited but cast boolit choice is not. It's a great hunting cartridge for small game, just like the 25-20 and a lot of other rounds. It's not all about FPS and energy.
