Sold my 59 Allis-Chalmers,purchased 63 Ford 2000. Was told that the clutch operates off the same hydralic fluid that controls the lift. What fluid would be best to install if I flush system? I think clutch may need replacing since it jumps badly when there is a heavy load on tractor i.e. disc. Also it has a lever on the right side that says Draft Control. What is its purpose?

Cant imagine what you are talking about the "clutch operates of the same hydralic fluid".
What kind of transmission is it? Clutch should be dry plate type. Do you have owners manual and repair manual? If not get Fort/NH manuals before operating or changing fluids.
Tom

Do you have a Select-O-Speed (SOS) transmission???? That is the only one that I can think of that would use oil for the clutch action. The regular transmissions where just a simple dry clutch.

I guess I should post a picture of the tractor. There are drain plugs in several locations under the tractor including the tranmission. I have no manuals on the tractor, never owned a Ford. Thanks for the reply!

I am lost on this too. i have never owned a Ford, though I do love the tractor so far. Maybe a picture would help. Thanks for the reply!

Three drain plugs are transmission, hydraulic sump, and rear end. OK to use universal hydraulic fluid that meets Fords 134D specs in all three. They are separate compartments but the seals between them may leak.

Boy, was begining to think I was crazy. You nail the drains and locations. What type transmission is this? Any idea what the draft control level does? Thanks!
Roger

HCooke you are right about what the three plugs are but he still does not know what transmission he has. That will affect the type of oil he needs in it if he has a SOS transmission.

He stated that his tractor was jerking around when it pulled. That is what made me think he might have a SOS transmission. He then has much more problems than just an oil issue.

I don't think that it is a SOS. It has 4 speeds forward and one reverse. It pulls fine once clutch is completely engaged but with disc up letting off the clutch causes it to buck badly until clutch pedal is totally out. Does not do this with my box blade or pulling trailer.

thats supposed to be a dry clutch...the reason its bucking is one or more seals is leaking either engine oil or tranny oil into bell housing...gonna have to split tractor to fix...replace pressure plate, clutch disk and throwout bearing while you got it apart unless you really like splitting tractors.

You have a plain jane 4 speed geared trans. Clutch is dry.

Tranny has a full plug on the rt side; just follow the shift lever down the side about half way....1/8" pipe plug. Uses 90w GL-1, Mineral Oil. Fill plug is right front of tranny on top.

Hyd has a dip stick on the left side also about half way up. Fill plug is around there.

Diff is also GL-1. Full plug is behind rear axle housing on the left; 1/2" pipe plug, fill is on top behind the seat on the right side.

What else do you want to know? I have the exact year and model in a diesel. 134 tran/hyd will probably do in all 3 areas but being thinner oil will show up any leaking seals easier than the 90w .

Fantastic! It seems you have given me all the fill locations and plugs which I really needed. Is the fluid vescosity you stated ok for the summer heat we exprience here in North Carolina.
