Chinese buying US farmland?

A friend was looking at farmland acreage for sale in western VA recently. The real estate agent told him that he just had two gentlemen from China that had flown in that day, and had come to the US to look at farmland. Has anyone else heard of this happening in your area? I guess if China were to cash in the us bonds that they own, they could buy a lot of land.

Why conquer us when they have enough money to buy us? Then they save bullets for people that are to smart to get deep in debt to them.

A Chinese company bought 51% of a local coop elevator quite a few years ago. I guess nobody locally would give them enough money when it was for sale.

Don't know why they'd bother buying. A few years they'll just call in their loans and own the whole place anyway.

Can't buy any in china, only 99 year lease, Australia is the same as the USA, Our Foreign investment board will not look at any purchases under $250 million {I think but a ridiculous amount} not agregated so they can buy all the farms in the country. Stupid Politicans.
Needs a monumental overhaul.Pollies also.

No big deal if we keep borrowing money from them our children and grandchildren will all be laborors/slaves on the Chinese owned farms.Ain't job security a great thing.

The Chinese are starting to see the problems that go along with a growing economy. They're just one big mistake away from being the NEXT country with overwhelming financial problems. When they do go under water, we can buy back the debt they own for pennies on the dollar. The sky really isn't falling Chicken Little.....

Best advice for dealing with todays world economy? Same as it's always been....DO NOT PANIC. Things will eventually go in the other direction.

If you would do some research instead of just ranting you would find out that very little of the US debt is owned by China, most is held by US citizens!

"Here" The local Indian casino's are buying farmland with a BTO farming it. Also back in the 70's several German investors bought farmland north and west of here. Some was sold on an auction 2 years ago.

Remember that case a few years ago where the Shakopee Tribe was buying land all around them and trying to call it tribal? No taxes to the county then. MN Supreme Court shot that notion down. Nice try though.
