i'm doing my best not to get poofed on this one but does it bother any of yall that local level law enforcement has armored lite vehicles and boats with grenade launchers and heavy machine guns...i realize they need a level playing field but this seems like overkill to me...this is the second show showing the crew building military vehicles for local leo
maybe i read 1984 too many times when i was young...

Well if they would build an armored tarctor, then we could talk about that before it goes poof.

You have a good point, but OTOH if it would come down to us vs .GOV it might not hurt to have a Sheriff with useful gadgets.

I just don't get what's so great about these guys. It seems like all their products are just modifications of already existing weapons just like orange county choppers build bikes that are basically all the same. Stuff like the flame throwers is just like stuff from the old monster garage show. Make something original. As for the vehicles, all that does is make a target because unless you're in a m1 tank an ied can take out most armoured vehicles. As for the girl, she isn't exactly the most appealing woman on tv...

I saw the show, they profiled an incident where a fatality occurred and seemed to use that to reinforce the reason for the retrofit of that British armored vehicle.

That's a unique location with famous annual events whereas plenty of alcohol, + other favorite intoxicants are probably common, during these celebrations.

Given that, and the stated purpose of the vehicle for crowd dispersal, I can understand the justification for having it at ones disposal for that sole purpose, in the hands of a trusted and just law enforcement officer, any other use or purpose I would question too, its a specific tool for a specific job, and I assume the 1919 in that turret is an insurance policy for the operator, however, I'd not want to be in his/her shoes, that vehicle as armed still does not exhibit much confidence that it could not be breached, nor do I like the grenade tube set up, if I am not mistaken, no way to reload them from inside. There is no doubt it could be stopped and overtaken, outflanked, draw his fire, water, run him out, harass, distract, etc., it has tires, blind spots, if that is what big brother is going to use, he'd better go back to the drawing board, what has been developed recently for the military is what would concern me, if same was turned on us. That is a surplus vehicle, probably bought on a budget with modifications in mind, to fit that budget for the intended purpose to disperse a crowd, one that is unarmed.

It would be interesting to set up a field problem for it and test it under more realistic proving ground type tests though, put some people out there, fire those grenades, water and see how many get through, just on that alone, teargas is nasty as I recall from NBC and the gas chamber, but aside from all the tears, gagging and snots dripping, would you trust that to stop an angry drug or alcohol fueled crowd, not in my book, then of course its easy to turn that 1919 on em, cause the water ran out, tear gas ineffective, threat of being overtaken or worse.

I like the show, Will, can be a (short for Richard) sometimes, looks like he's built a respectable business though and being a boss/owner never easy. I like to see the design, fabrication of things, same with the other shows and it is very interesting to see work like armoring, gun-smithing, machinist, welding/fabricating, problem solving, and most things they work on, even the antiques.

Quick thoughts on the show:

It's too bad Vince caught such an attitude, which I could understand to some degree, you still have to be professional at all times even under duress. He was talented, very intelligent and was part of a pretty good team, they seem like a good group, he's lucky to have them, that one guy who came on and brought a German MG to the interview, sure has talent with that welding process on the De-militarized weapons they have rebuilt. I like the other show too, the one in CO. they were both on together on another show after.

Local law enforcement can get some of that stuff from the military for free under some programs to realign surplus property. You can get tractors, boats trucks and all kinds of stuff. Our former sheriff collected 10 or 12 boats under this program. Some of the boats were Boston Whalers. When we peeled the sheriff's department decals off for the surplus sale they said USMC/MWR on them. I imagine some department got peacekeepers when they closed all of those SAC bases. Not the missile but a heavily armored Dodge SUV.

I think you're right, they do build off a lot of existing platforms, it seems the products are good.

Will seems to struggle with conceptual design, engineering as we saw with that rotary/gatlin shotgun they tried. New designs from scratch are certainly formidable tasks, very costly and very risky, in addition to even being able to be built, then tested and proven. He sure was on Vince's behind on that one, cut him off on production for that premature test fire that failed, was really interested in the specifics on that, seems the market share of what they do is better on what they show us on tv.

How about the full auto 40mm grenade launcher that was brought in ? It took a collaborative effort with how many resources to finish it, and the origins started 40 years ago according to the show, wonder what stalled it, they even silenced it. Instead of the fender mount radio on my tractor, can I get one of those ? LOL !

My son works in a shop that builds special assult weapons for State Police,City departments, specialized stuff for Fish and Wildlife. Ever heard of SWAT? Special Weapons And Tactics? Given the terrorist situation, heavily armed drug gangs etc,why would you send the good guys up against heavily armed bad guys, armed with nothing but a pea shooter?
Pierce Engineering

I think the only reason they do that is because Discovery wants episodes that capture peoples attentions and what better way then to equip an LEO patrol boat with grenade launchers, and heavy MG's? Plus you can't take out a savage gator with a 0.22LR, lol. Personally I think there is way to much drama on that show. Browsing different gun forums, it seems Discovery is purposely putting drama in the show so people watch, not worth the effort is my opinion so I stopped watching.

I agree on the girl, got a side view recently and noticed her gut stuck out farther than her rack, and I don't think she's pregnant! So I crossed her off my list of chicks to look at!

I hear you there. The owner of the show is a hot head and a D!ck. His daughter is hot, she is the only good thing about the show. I also stopped watching it.
It would be neat to have the last episode aired where the ATF shut the place down for selling modified to ARs that shoot full auto to a regular guy without a permit. And the owner (hot head) gets cuffed and thrown in the slammer.
See ya.

Personally, I think in real life the loss of Vince will lead to the demise of Red Jacket. The guy who married his daughter wouldn't make a pimple on Vince't butt.
How would you feel about work if another guy marries the boss's daughter and puts him in charge?

i maybe watched 3 shows and to me it a joke, it's all for TV. i may be wrong bit most people that enjoy shooting sports are not doing what they are.
my 2 cents.

I dont know if what I had read was true or not but Will and Stephanie had lost their FFL's due to some error in gun count. Vince ended up being in control as they shifted to his FFL license? On a side note Vince had started his own shop and that is why he left I guess. I don't know what truth all this was or right now where I even read it at.
