JD 2555 Loader Joystick hookup

I'm putting a 146 loader on a JD2555. I want to add a joystick so I can keep constant pressure to the loader as I need all four of my rear hookups from time to time.

I think my pressure return line can come out of my transmission filter housing???(I'm asking as much as I'm stating)...If that is true - where can I get my pressure supply from? I was told I could hook in where my hydraulic levers are - but wherever I look to put a hook up there appears to interfere with the operation of the levers..

Any ideas?

Here's a schematic of the hoses on a 146 loader on a JD utility tractor such as a 2555. Parts key # 1 supplies the SCV's(remote valves)

Dumping the return oil direct to the trams case will starve the front pump , use a ported trans filter cover. Supply oil is from where ever you can install a "T" in the high pressure line prior to the rockshaft and SCV valves. A set of closed center valves will be required.

Thanks for the help but need a little more explanation - my trans filter housing already has a port, a T and a plug on the T...I thought of plugging in there.

I get the pressure tap T - just gotta look...

Don't know what a closed center control valve is...

But I ordered a joystick from northern tool..."Brand Hydraulics Monoblock Loader Valve with Regeneration, Model# PLV22RFSTKAB

Does that have what I need to connect pressure, return, then the four hoses from the loader?

JD used a closed center hydraulic system in all of their tractors through the 60's 70's and 80's, I think they went to open center with the 5400 series. Almost all other tractors use an open center system. The closed center system was faster that the contemporary open systems of that time. I think that if you use an open center valve on a closed center system your system will be under load all the time and your tractor will act like it is working hard all the time. The valve is likely open center unless it is specified as closed center. Buickanddeere and JD Seller will know more about it and be able to explain it better than I can.

You're statement isn't totally correct. Not all JD tractors from the 60's-80's were closed center. I'll give you some exceptions that come to mind. 1010/2010,(3cyl 820 & 830 and early 2040's). Closed center tractor production ended in '92

If your tractor already has the tee at the ported filter cover you're in good shape.Route your return hose to it.
I looked up your valve on Northern tools website it didn't state open or closed. You can contact Northern or just attach pressure line and direct return line into sump filler hole. Be sure and tighten the relief valve on the valve COMPLETELY Crank engine with both control levers in neutral and if oil runs out of hole it's an open center.
