Mahindra tractor question??

My neighbor asked me to look at his low houred Mahindra tractor that he was driving and it died. I checked engine oil level(full mark) then for fuel in the tank(1/2 full)checked for fuel flow at fuel filter(good flow) and checked for fuel at inj pump. I got it to start but it KNOCKS. Loosen each 4 injectors and it's firing on all 4. I told him to have inj tested and if that's not a problem engine will require work. Any ideas??? Thanks,Jim

How'd the oil look??? He wouldn't have run it out and got embarrassed then filled it before calling you?

Good question Dave, my daughter did that to me a couple of years ago. Had to drive 90 miles to Fargo, worked on it changing the starter cause she fried it trying to start it after it spun a bearing. was about -20F. Then I pulled the dip stick and it's got clean new oil on it. Seems it started, she went into the apartment and came back out it had died. Turned over real slow so then she cheaked the oil. She then added 3 1/2 quarts to a 4 quart system. She only told me this after I installed the starter, a new battery and tried jumping it.

Tx Jim did he use ether on it?? I have seen two different ones with bent connecting rods that where ether started. They had an engine knock after that.

These tractor seem to not have many engine issues. They do have MFWD issues but engines have been pretty good.

Good point. The neighbor ran the battery down while trying to crank it before he ever called me. I'll ask about ether use. Thanks,Jim

Suggest you cut the oil filter open and check for debris (bearing, piston maderial, etc.) The usual bad stuff. You will normally see a little but if it is full get the took box out.
