built me a log arch

built me a log arch last week out of stuff i had
laying around.works good especially on those logs
way down deep in the hollars that are almost
impossible to skid out with a tractor i will get
some pics tommorro and get them on.

My brother built one out of an old 501 Ford mower. He stripped it down to the arch and hung a set of tongs in there. Works great with his Farmall H /3PH.

i almost did the same thing i have two of them one for parts pretty rough shape but i just couldnt bring myself to cut it up not yet anyway!

Hmmm. . . Arch from a 501 mower, mount an electric winch on the back of the tractor (or the drawbar), hang a block off the top of the arch to run the cable through, Hmmm. . .

sounds good doesnt it .i was gonna put a set of wheels though under mine like the one i built.i will be firen up the old torch and welder makin another one outta that old mower especially when the neighbors and all my buddys see the one i got i just here em already.

No winch on brothers - just tongs.
Sometimes he don't have to leave the seat. Back up to the log and lower the arch. Most times the tongs will grab then lift and go.Hi does have to unhook the log at the landing or a helper can pop it loose with a peavy.

I built a log hauler with new steel for 200 bucks.I had the wheels and winch on hand.Seems foolish to cut up a mower that could be rebuilt and put back to mowing.I have been looking for a mower for my Ford tractor for 5 years.

all this old mower is in bad shape i got it at a auction for $50 five years ago looks like its been outside its whole life very rough shape only good for parts, thats why i bought it i have another one that is really nice but dont use it anymore, went to a 9ft haybine.
