case 430 tractor intake

why does the intake frost up while tractor is running. just started to do this, and she doesnt sound well. skipping alittle. what do i do to fix this. please help, i need my tractor

Frost is normal with certain temperature and humidity conditions. When it forms shut the tractor off for a few minutes until it melts then restart and it should work.

i understand that, but it frosts up everytime. whether you shut it off for a while or not. there has to be something that is maybe wrong with the carburetor? she was skipping last year while doing hay also. could the carb be getting too much air or not enough air. or maybe the ethenol fuel that we now have to purchase???????

It's normal,BUT,Oliver for one,I believe had some kind of kit that you could get that drew heat from the exhaust manifold to heat the incoming air a little. Don't know if Case had such a contraption or not.

My MT JD would do that at different times. I was using it at 9000' Elev. Put some tin over it to hold heat from the engine block. It worked. I think blocking the air on the outside also helped.

1st of all we have been using ethanol fuel for 25 + years so ignore all the advice you get that it is your problem. With high humidity you will get frost but you may also have condensation in the distributor cap to cause the miss or you may have bad plug wires. I don't think you have a carb problem we have had them frosted so bad the throttle had no effect on the speed, try something to keep engine heat around the carb; canvas, or cardboard, or tin, or plywood let us know what works.

I'm assuming a gas tractor? Carb intake icing is common, any time you turn a liquid into a gas it absorbs energy, that's what a carburetor does vaporizes fuel. The intake air drops below dew point causing the frost. Small aircraft have carb heat you turn on to prevent or melt it, but you don't leave it on all the time because it lowers engine power output.

I have a 530 Case that does the samething. I think it"s a common thing with case tractors some are very cold blooded. The colder it is outside the worst it is on running smooth.

I run my choke 1/4 way closed or more till engine quits sputtering and once the engine gets warmed up enought so you won"t need to set the choke. Usally it will start loading up the engine with black smoke come out the exhaust pipe then the frost around the intake is going away. You won"t need the choke it anymore.
