Im looking for a good used jockey grinder so I can sharpen my 48 inch saw blade teeth. I just priced out a new one... ouch!! Any help would be great!

Do you have the replaceable teeth?
A friend of mine has a 48" mill. He uses a router and a tube shaped grind stone to sharpen the blade teeth.

Local sawyer uses a file to sharpen his replaceable teeth blade. Flat 12 inch mill file should do it. Web page wouldn't let me give the official complete name for the file.

Takes a Good steady hand and a lot of practice to hand sharpen a saw blade. I gave up after one try and bought a jocky grinder :~)

If they're not inserted, I can't help you. If they are, take 'em out and buy some carbide teeth; if you stay out of the dirt and metal, they'll probably outlast you. If you do sharpen the ones you've got, they'll probably need swaging first..........

> a lot of practice to hand sharpen a saw blade.

Fun fact: people who used to travel around and sharpen saw blades for a living were called "saw doctors" (for good reason).

Called a Mill b asterd dad used them everyday at noon I can still hear the sound, would ring all thought the woods.

Man I'm getting old. Never even heard of a jockey grinder. Alway's used a 10 in flat b file back when I was running mine. Takes about 20 minutes once you get the hang of it. You can get around 4 filings before you need to touch up the teeth with the swage. That's what takes time & patience to learn. It will be a lot easier to learn to swag and file if you get a new bit to go by.

sharpened by hand for years. Bought a Jockey grinder & after I caught on to it, does a better job faster & easier. Saves a lot of wear & tear on shoulder joints too.
