Case L paint question

I have recently started a Case L restoration and my question concerns the color of which it should be painted. All or most of the pictures I find on the internet leads me to believe that the Case L’s were gray and mine is to or so I thought. While I was cleaning the paint off the hood I went through two layers of not original gray, they were different shades even and below these two coats was the old Case Orange and it actually had the decals on it.
I am wondering if it should be orange or if someone had repainted it orange, decals and all? I wouldn’t be questioning this if there weren’t so many pictures of these tractors painted Gray. I understand that the year it was made would make a difference but does anyone know what years the paint on these tractors changed from orange to gray?
I am thankful for any help or pointers;
Thanks again

Do you have the serial number? If so, the year of
Mfg. can be determined which will determine the
color of paint. (J.I.Case changed color to flambeau
red in 1939.

all Case "L"'s were originally Grey, "but" the company stores and dealers were know to "update" to the newwer color to seel old stock that had faded from sitting so it may look very much like it was Flambeau to start with cnt

I've seen L's with the square radiater, in grey
Later ones with rounded radiaters,(LA ?) were
orange. I had an L from original owner, squareish
radiater..that was grey. Not sure of the year
now, as all the records went with it when sold.

Can you discribe what you mean by roundish? Its tag says its an "L" along with a serial number located on the left side (from the front of the tractor) on the frame below the radiator. Id post a picture of the hood but im a new member and for some reason i cant, i guess...

If i took the serial number and make to a Case Dealer, could they tell me what color this was or does their records not go back far enough? I know you can get alot of information thru John Deere for Old John Deeres but i never restored an Old Case...
