My 2007 GMC truck came with a AGM Battery. If I replace it with a conventional lead acid battery, will the alternator overcharge and damage battery?

Thanks
George

If your alternator is charging the AGM battery at 14.0 to 14.5 volts now, your conventional lead battery should see the same charging voltage as long as nothing happens to your regulator. Hal

Keep in mind the alternator for AGM battery is designed for a higher output. So will the higher output damage a convential battery. There is nothing wrong with the alternator.

It will be fine with a conventional battery. The alternator in that truck bases its charge rate on electrical demand, not the battery style. That's what the sensor on the negative cable is for. On a side note, I'm surprised your truck still has an AGM battery. We replaced all most every one we sold within two years when I was a dealer tech. We replaced them with regular batteries because GM discontinued the replacement AGM batteries.
