OT checking dual alternators on a 08 duramax

Does anyone happen to know what is the best way to go about checking the output on each alternator? Is it possible to disconnect one and then check it at the batteries or is there another way? Thanks in advance for the help.

Buy or borrow a clamp meter. That should get you the information you need. Lots cheaper than taking both of them off and hauling them into an alternator shop.

FYI: the alternator on the drivers side is the secondary alternator and only comes on when the ecm commands it to. There for you could unplug the primary alternator to check that the secondary is working, and vise versa.
