Firewood and crazy winter!

Last year or 2010 I had my 20 x24 wood shed full of stacked wood. I thought I'd have alot left for 2011? Well last year was very cold, so I ended up burning more than I though. Last summer i just dumped the wood in the shed with tractor. Well it backfired on me, this year has been rather mild, so I still have little over half a shed of wood. Now we have no snow, mild temps and a load of wood to cut stack and season for next year, but hardly any room in the shed! Oh well, I'm still waiting for that big storm! Lol, how's everyone's winter as far as snow cover?? I was told January was the cold month, and feburary was the snow month! J

around western ny feb. is usually the coldest, but not this year. also we watch out in march for heavy (both in weight and volume) one time snow falls. Bill

Pretty close to you here in MA - so not much different.

Maybe it's just me - but it seems to me that winters in general aren't changing much, they're just happening later in the year.

It seems to take longer to get cold, but it stays cold longer into the spring.

This year's definitely a weird one any way you look at it - but I really wouldn't be surprised if we got our february in march.

I agree with you, warm in November but snow in April, I was thinking the same thing, late winter nowadays.

Here in eastern KY everyone is gettin' ready for a dumpin' of snow that the weather guys are forcasting. Seems we are in line to get hit (Saturday night and sunday) with anywhere from 8 to 14 inches of wet snow! Although, they have been wrong before...we'll just wait and see!

Jay I'm in North Central Minnesota, There is 3"+/- snow here which has melted and refroze so theres quite a little ground and ice showing.
Temps were only near normals around last of Jan with one low near -20F. Nothing been -25 to -35 as is typical. Went out and grabbed 75'x14" popple tree and burned pretty much just that one tree through Jan. Very warm winter here and easy on wood. One drawback was had fish house ready at Christmas but didn't get enough ice to pull it out with pickup until late Jan. Finally said forget it and parked it for season. Certainly strange year here.

Even here in Texas we are having a mild winter. Our last cold spell got down to 45. Couple of nights at 35. But the highs have been from 50 to 82. Got a feeling summer is going to be hot.

Prolly the last thing u need after last summer right? No rain hot and dry. We were soaked up here, wish we could have sent u some rain! Lol

Winter- what winter? Up here in northern N.Y. ( Franklin county) very mild temps and little snow.

Got the same great problem here in Iowa. At this time of year I should have only 2 1/2 rows left (12" x 7") and have 5. I already have next years wood cut and split on wagons and the year afters wood cut up but still needs split. I"ll take this kind of winter any time!

Seems like I burned about the usual amount of wood, but cutting for next year has been a pain. Ground is not frozen, can't haul much of a load without getting stuck or cutting up my trails in the woods. I have been waiting for the few frozen mornings we've had to haul wood to the pile. At this point I don't know if we're ever gonna get a good freeze up, 2/3 of the way thru February.

Pretty much the same here in WI, I just tarp my firewood though so all I have to deal with is a head start for next year.
