batteries in farmall 1486D

She is a straight 12 volt system you have a ground on each side and the hot goes to the starter . Org. they came with group 24 battery You can squeeze a group 27 in . Just get the highest cold crank you can .

Would it be possible for you to show me a diogram
on hooking them up: because it has 2 6 volt batteries. And the batteries were pulled before I could see how they hooked up.
MANY THANKS; HAVE A GREAT DAY

The two six volt batteries are hooked in series. The positive of the first battery is hooked to the starter post. The negative of the first battery is hooked to the positive of the second battery with a short jumper. The negative of the second battery then goes to a good ground on the frame. The positive post of the jumper will always corrode quickly and cause problems. With a no start always clean this one post and things will work. I liked to replace this whole mess with a 12 volt D8D battery and the problems went away. It does take a lot of room though!

In the long run will be better to just use 2 - 12 volt batteries. Hook them in parallel, ground each neg post and run two hot wires to the starter. If you are locked into the 2 - 6 volt batteries. Just hook a neg and a pos together. then run the pos to the starter and ground the neg you have left. That is in series. All the post above are correct. Vic

Heading is (1486) which would be two 12 volts like Tractor Vet said. Originally they had one hot cable that went from starter over to left hand battery pos post and then back across to right battery pos post. If cables were replace most likely they went to two seperate cables from starter to pos posts. Ground straps went to cab mount bracket.
