Squeaky brakes

My 2011 vehicle with 13000 miles on it has very squeaky breaks for about the last week or so. Disc front and drum rear. Any suggestions before I go to the dealer. Thanks

Try blowing the dust and dirt out with compresed air? Seriously, there are some brakes that are incurable, short of complete new components.

When we did a brake job in the shop I worked at, we put a coat of blue chaulk on the back of the brake pad,it eliminates any vibration that makes the squeal. Dirt, dust or a small stone can produce a lot of sounds.

Some new cars are very hard on brakes. I saw a Malibu with 12K on it getting a set when I was in for inspection recently, at 1 year and 12k Miles it wouldn't pass inspection. The mechanic blamed it on Aluminum calipers...

Chrysler products with disc front-drum rears are notorious for this problem. Sometimes cleaning and breaking the glaze on the drums helps.

I have a car with either semi-metallic or metallic brake pads. The brakes squeak after it sits out in the rain or damp weather overnight and almost every time is is washed. The noise goes away very quickly by driving it a short distance.

If your car's brakes always make noise when braking have them checked. One or more may be worn down to the wear indicators already.

michael hit on an idea.. there is a compound you can get in lil packs to put ont he back of the shoes to help with squeaks.

otherwise.. make sure the slides are cleaned and moving freely/lubed.. etc..

IMHO.. semi-metalic squal more too.. just a fact o life..

Agree with the others..you can put various compounds on the back of the pads, disc brake quiet comes to mind.

Some vehicles can be the dickens to stop this problem for no apparent reason. Pads may be worn enough that the 'squeaker' contacts the rotor but this is more a screech!
