7030 allis power director question

looking at an allis 7030 with a power director trans. decent enough tractor and can be bought right. power director will not shift out of low. has the two buttons on the deck, kind of like a torque amplifier. any common problems with this set up that could be causing the problem? how big of a repair operation? trans otherwise shifts well thru all gears and the high-low works also. no odd noises coming from the trans either.

It could be just a control problem. Some of these just had a linkage that the button worked and some of the later ones had an electric system. I always tried to stay away from AC 7000 series tractors. They where "Bad News.

I have had friends and neighbors own them. Many of them got to enjoy the high repair bills. The value of these is not good even if they are in perfect condition. One with any kind of transmission trouble is worth much less. Many times bone yards are the only buyers.

So unless you are real familiar with working on them I would pass. I know there will be AC guys on here telling you how wrong I am. Well if I am so wrong why is the value of them so low????? Equipment that is cheap is that way for a reason. The free market works very well on these problem pieces of equipment. So I would recommend you pass on it unless the seller is willing to pay to have the problem fixed.

a lot time dirt get under the floor switch. clean it good the clutch is in the power director not a bad repair is right behind engine. the 7030 was one of the better in the 7000 series use same engine a the 7080 just set up different main thing i do is if it has over 2500 hr do a under haul main bearing rod bearing there good tractor if not turned up nothing wrong with them
