After about 20 years I figured I'd finnally take a peek into her belly and see what I find. She started belching black smoke and locked up. I guess curiousity finally got the best of me. I got the pan off and don't see signs of a spun bearing so I pulled caps to see and found nothing. Looked up at the cylinders and think I found the problem. Looks like a stuck piston up there. Guess I'll take the head off tomorrow and see for sure.

You may mean you didn't find anything, it's a little difficult to find something that is not there but you would be surprised how many people do.Seems to be popular usage.

Will you replace one piston only or do the lot. There was a post on here or Fordson/Harry Ferguson by someone who had the same decision to make.don't know the result.
I always replace the lot because they have done the same amount of work and condition of others may not be revealed by eye.

I know what the problem is. Your shop is too filthy for the tractor to run right. Clean that mess up!

hahahaha holy cow! looks better than some of the A&P shops I have seen.

I'll probably replace the whole lot. I'm thinking in frame overhaul. I'll know in a few hours, just getting ready to start on it today. As for a clean shop, I have been trying to keep it neat and organized, thank for the positive comments.

All sleeves and pistons out. Best I can tell a couple pistons stuck. Kinda hard to tell, the 'ol soup can over the exhaust rusted a hole in it and got water in a hole so I'll get things checked out and probably put a engine together!

How long did it sit outside?

A soup can rusting through says it has been years, but, just curious...

Those engines are pretty solid. Let us know what you find. I'd say if you didn't find a destroyed piston, or cracked block, you are ahead of the game.

Hope all goes well.

It has been outside for 18-20 years. I had 2 cylinders that the rain got into and the 3rd looked darkened like the cylinder wall wasn't lubed properly and siezed. I'm guessing the motor oil broke down and caused this. I had the #2 main bearing showing some excessive wear opposed to the others but it didn't look to be the culpret. The rod bearings had been replaced in 1974 I'm guessing because they were stamped on the back with 12-73 but the mains were original. She han't had anything turned as they were standard size.
