Just ran across these on ebay after reading about them on a forum here... Supposed to be able to tell them the tractor you have and they will make it ready to bolt on..... Waiting on some feedback from a couple folks that ordered them but am gettin that twinkle in the eye.. All in german, but the pics are there...

Thinkin it'd look nicer than my ragtop and would make a heater and radio make sense...

It'd better be easy to put on and take off if you're going to use it at all in the summer. Without air,you can't even begin to imagine how hot they get. Not like opening the window on a car. You're not going fast enough for it to do any good, and I don't care how good of a vent fan you have in it.

You might want to check if they make them for
tractors over about 10 years old before you even
consider one. I can't see them custom making one to
fit an older tractor without 1. having the tractor
and 2. costing a lot of money.

A cab is nice but it is worth spending more on a cab
that what the tractor is worth?

These folks are supposed to specialize in fitting to older tractors. No idea, just waiting to see if the folks that ordered them are happy. Don't want it to look like a sore thumb either, but I saw a couple pics of my style of tractor with solid cabs that looked decent....
As to costing more than the tractor, I wish.......

Dave the price seems very reasonable for the quality of cab pictured. If you are using the tractor a lot in the winter then a nice solid cab would be real nice. It also looks like they have a nice door. The one on your soft cab looks kind of a pain to get in and out of.

I guess the two questions I would need answered before making a final judgment are:

1) How hot does it get in your part of Germany in the summer?? A cab even with the doors and windows out is hotter. IF you don't get that hot in the summer and don't use it as much as the winter then the cab could be a good choice. They also will be noisier.

2) How long do you think you will keep the tractor you have??? Reason being that if you really like it and plan on having it long term then the cab makes much more sense. If you look at the cost per year if you have it ten years then it is not that much.

I also remember you having trouble finding the soft cab you currently have. It it of much value??? If it is then that would be an offset on the solid cab.

My personal experience with the type of cabs you are looking at would be close to the old Year-Round ones here. When the tractors where the main ones we had I hated the cabs. They where hot in the summer and real noisy when working the tractor hard. So we usually took them off and reinstalled the factory fenders. Now when those same tractors are just chore tractors then I have put many of the cabs back on. When you are not in them long hours in the summer and do use them long hours doing winter feeding then the cab warmth is worth the summer heat discomfort.

my rag cab cost half as much as this one  ..... and this hard cab costa less than front loaders I have been finding. Think I'd get more use outta the cab than a loader..... I'll wait on some feedback and talk with the boss.... She's already said how well she likes it tho.....

MN had a number of cab mfgrs since the late 60s. Early ones were noisy boxes with maybe half or three-quarter foam insulation. Very noisy, but kept you out of winter winds. Later ones, Year-Round, Hiniker, (both made in Mankato, MN) and Cozy Cab in Litchfield, MN.....used one inch foam, rubber mounts, typical that all windows and doors were easily removable for summer use without air- it"s just like an open station with a sun roof. Hearing a radio was so-so, especially compared to now. But, where they worth it? Resounding YES! Plowing on a snowy drizzling day, in a Tee shirt vs bundled up? Winter chores with heat? For those of us that grew up with nothing, they were a God send. Today"s cab with out working air, all that glass, with tight doors and windows- miserable.

Is a cab worth it/ You bet it is. My first tractors didn't have cabs because they just didn't make them. As the years have passed, my last two tractors have had cabs, a 4240 and a 6400. The 806 and 2520 have just had to suffer with a canopy, but even they are much more comfortable than the sun. But the 4240 and 6400 also see a lot of winter work that we didn't do before, and allow us to work longer without freeezing to death, and allow us to do afeew things in the rain that would stop us in years past. Yeah, it costs more, but as your bones age, you can also appreciate the extra creature comfort even more.

The old cab's were better than nothing, took one off our john deere last fall. Guy wanted for snowblowing etc. Was a cozy cab all the glass was there good cab foam but I put new in it 15 years before he got it so was thick stuff. I was happy to get $500 for it. Cozy was nice since you could keep your fenders on your tractor others you could not.

Yea a cab in the winter is worth it even if all it's doing is getting you out of the wind (gotta fix the heater this spring) When it's -30F plus the wind is blowing 20-30 MPH you really learn to like a cab fast!

In 1972 my sisters husband and FIL got a new 826 IH. Now old Willard was a tight wad so my BIL had to pay for the cab. No heat or air. After the first winter old Williard was mounting cabs on anything he could and until he passed they never got another tractor without a cab.
