Youth of today!

It is just shy of 7a.m. here in Lone Jack, Mo. its a whopping 5 degrees and just got back to the house frozen. The reason being some of our finest set my cousins hay bales on fire! I doubt we ever catch them, but I sure hope they do. Not only did they destroy some high dollar hay, but think of all the unnecassary crap that they put us and the fire department through! Personally I think that the guilty parties should have to work it out next summer on the farm and maybe get a clue as to what it is to make a living!

No brains. No common sense. No work ethic. No morals. No social skills. It would be a waist of time to get them to the farm. I've said for years that in another generation or two,humans will just be like another species of wild animals on the face of this earth. Not all are this way, but a large percentage. I blame it to a lack of parenting. Without some parenting during the formative years, the kid is pretty much doomed.

Personally I wouldn't want to work with the sorry sack of dog food, to big of a temtation to run the disk over him. They should still have chain gangs for people like him.

While I agree about people being parents you have to look a little deeper. Why are they not parents? The kids having kids today grew up through schools and were told from the first day "if your parents do anything to you report it" "you may be abused". So the government has created a sense that makes people afraid to be parents.

Who's mad at you? Perhaps someone wants to get back at you or you have fire bug in your neighbor hood.

Bob, I do not know that for a fact, but the kids around here are bored and onery. A mail box does not stand a chance in He11, they caught some kids that set a local fertilizer plant on fire, burned up a CaseIH four wheel articulating tractor and two skid steers. That was a year ago about this time of the year. Punishment was minimal as they were underage. Insurance company was stuck for it, the parents were broke...

If the parents in that scenario would hand the kids the phone and the number for child services, things would be better for all involved. CS would come pick up the kids and drop them in foster care. I told my boys that the first time they tried to play that card. "Go for it, I hope you enjoy your new home and no, you won't be living here."

Maybe I just have smart kids that could see how it would play out.

The black columnist and Marine veteran Thomas Sowell once wrote that when his sister's kids were teenagers she called them together.

She said, "I just want you to know that if you ever get into trouble and wind up in jail, by law you're entitled to make one phone call."

She added, "Don't waste your phone call on me!"

She had her act together better than a lot of parents nowadays.

Trouble is, when kids do try to do the right thing, usually some boneheaded adult screws it up for them. I may make another thread out of that.

YOUTH TODAY::::

I blame a lot of our youth problem today on both parents and the justice system;
Justice system will not let the parents be parents and letting the parents correct the
Child when he or she needs to be corrected. I am a firm believer that if I am not allowed to Discipline my child then the DHS needs to raise my Children. I will admit there are some kids that just will not listen and will not mind. But then on the other hand there a some kids you don’t even they are around.
So we as parents have to work with what god has gave us and make the best of it and hope every thing works out, and if we started teaching our kids the different between right and wrong at very young age we have a real good chance that things will turn out for the good

We no longer have a "justice" system. It was replaced by the "legal" system, which semms to have very little in common with justice. All common sense has been scrapped.

have a nephew that had to spend weekends in local boy-camp type jail for something he did,,,big deal, he didn't learn a thing about respect, thought it was a weekend from chores,,,i also told him don't call me if you get into trouble, you can spend a day in a real jail,,,, no phone calls so far..

Mike and the Police chief that you used to have in Lone Jack was actually trying to help these punks out and the parents said there kids never did it and he got fired.

here a few years ago we had a rash of hay bail fires. Nothin like get called out at three in the morning with the fire dept to find the bails are yours. That lasted about two weeks these kids set different farmers bails on fire. Then finally they got caught and charged with several counts of felony arson and doing some serious time. I was furious when we got called out everytime and more so when it was my hay but smilin ear to ear when they got caught.

I wondered how long it would take for someone to blame the schools for troubled youth. That kind of reasoning is part of the problem. Parents have the responsibliity to raise kids. Schools educate kids and do try to help protect those that are abused. I know of NO time in our area where a school tried to take away morally and ethically sound parental rights and responsibilities. Another thought, there are many good kids today. The % of good kids in our area is just as high as it was 50 years ago. Bad kids come from bad homes or bad friends not from schools or any other institution or organization.

After reading all of the statements here, I think you should change your title to "Some youth of Today". Here the whole group of youth is being JUDGED by a very small percent of the group. The media and etc only shows the negative. I suggest that you and anyone else attend the national FFA convention, if you want to seen youth being readied for the world. After putting in 35yrs teaching in high school, I can say the vast majority of youth are trying to prepare themselves for the world. The 3-5% that you are talking about does not paint the picture for ALL of the YOUTH of TODAY.
Have a good day and step out there and help the youth of today instead of comdeming them.

Around 40 years ago, one local farmer used to put his corn up in "shocks" out next to the road leading to the interstate. And 40 years ago, some kids used to put some gasoline in a quart jar, and go out late at night and set one or two of the corn shocks on fire.

Seems this farmer lost one or two every year, and usually the ones closest to the interchange road.

So when you condemn the "youth of today," remember that they're not doing anything new. Their parents were most likely the ones setting stuff on fire 40 years ago. And remember, the ones who do this are the minority, not the majority.
