Southern Snow!

Reading about the storm many of you are getting. I moved here in S.C. in 1993, so 19 years ago. When we moved here we thought we had it all figured out, left the big snow up north, we were done with all that. Called all our friends all the time and rubbed it in.

11 years after we moved (2004), got up one morning and found 22" of snow in our Rock Hill, S.C. yard. It was devastation! We don't have plows, shovels, etc etc. I plowed are drive with my little tractor and the box blade, the neighors laughed and said "it will melt". Two 3 days later, they borrowed are car to go get grocerys!

Anyway,I'm done!

#2. 2002 +6.5 degrees...
#3. 1906 +5 degrees...

We could pass 1906 if we keep at our current mild trend

Lloyd it does happen occasionally, but thank goodness not every year. I think we had a touch of that snow here in NC also.

The last year I was in the service, I was stationed in Charleston. I was a crew member on a Poseidon missle sub, and it was our 'off crew' period, so I spent most of my time off in Maryland. We had one of those winters like this one- mild temps and just a dusting of snow all winter. The Charleston area had a 6" snow (one that is not much more than a PITA type around here) that shut the whole area down for several days. No snow tires or removal equipment. That was the winter of early 1973. All I could do was laugh at all the stories about "the big blizzard"!

donjr,
I was IN Charleston in 1973 when that ice/snow hit. They had no idea what to do with it. It took the Nat. Guard 2 days to dig out I-26 to Columbia. 26" measured near Orangeburg.

I still get a chuckle about the Caddie in a ditch. A farmer passing on big 1086 stopped to help him, and started to unwrap a chain from the back end. Numbnut says, "You're not gonna hook that 'thing' to my $7000 car, are you?" The farmer wound the chain back up on the tractor, told him, "No, I'm not going to hook my $12000 tractor to your cheapass car", and left him in the ditch.
