In the last two months I have had some health issues taken care of.

1) I had Lasik surgery to both eyes and cataracts removed. I can now see much clearer. Matter of fact it is hard for me to weld right now. The arc is too bright. If I set the helmet dark enough not to hurt my eyes then I have trouble seeing where I am needing to weld. I will take that over needing glasses to read with though.

2) I had some of the shrapnel removed from my back. When I was originally wounded they said that the removal would be more dangerous than just leaving it be. So I have had back/nerve pain for over forty years. It got so bad last year that I rarely could sleep all night. Plus I had two places that if I bumped up against anything they would just about take you to your knees.

They removed all but two pieces last week. Even with the new tools they left the last two in. I can still feel them but over all it is 100% better. What was the most surprising is that how small of a hole they used to do the work. Then it was only sore for a few days.

Regardless of the old tractors/equipment we like to play with, the good ole days of medicine are now, not years ago.

It amazes me the things that can be done today. See a baby's heart repaired while it is still in its mother's womb. I have several grand kids that would have died just twenty years ago but are completely normal with todays care.

What will my grand children see done??? I had a great uncle die from appendicitis. Now you have a little scar maybe two inch long. So what is next???

Getting close to having the lasik thing done myself. You say you have trouble with arc welding. The question I have is, how do you handle oncoming traffic on a dark rainy night? I no longer drive under those conditions because of road glare. Been watching your posts and have respect for your opinions. Joe

I have not driven in a rain at night yet. My night vision does not seem affected by the surgery. I only had trouble in low light reading and fine details up close. He did warn me that my night vision maybe effected but so far it does not seem to have happened.

So what is my excuse? I haven't slept a night through in years, and I'm not as old as you!
Congratulations on getting fixed up. That is the upside of modern medicine.
But the future? Who knows. Unfortunately there's the downside- families demanding extraordinary measures to keep great great grandma alive- doctors who don't know how to doctor, or won't because all they are is fancy test administrators and drug pushers- etc.

Sort of an in frame major. You may be good for another million miles. Glad you had such good results from what must have been risky surgery.
