Sometimes, it's what your food is in that is the problem.

More reasons to buy fresh and buy local and to avoid (as much as possible) all the processed food out there.

Read the label for salt content. Learn with a big problem last year that I did not need 5000 mg of salt a day. Pulled back under 1500mgs per day and every thing is good. Looking at a salt free as possible diet. OH yes use the oven when cooking.

Ah yes, motherearthnews.com, another website that nobody has ever heard of. Surely it is a trusted respected source of unbiased factual information.

You do realize that in 20 minutes pretty much anyone can stand up a website and make something up that sounds pretty convincing.

Real easy way to solve this.

You remember the famous exploding Pinto? At the time they could only sue the company. Now the people who make the decisions can be criminally charged too.

Note I'm saying if not when.......

So because the GMO companies make the product they should be held accountable IF something goes wrong........And so should the farmer who choses to plant those GMO crops because they could have done it differently. Now for you GMO farmers, if you stood accountable and had a chance of being sued and going to jail for reckless endangerment and or manslaughter/wrongful death, whould you still plant GMO's?

I'm not convinced that GMO's are terrible but I'm not convinced they are safe and profit margin be d@@@, I'm not potentially putting others at risk for money. I'm not about to start trusting corporations to put out safe products, look at the auto makers and chemical companies track record.

(quoted from post at 07:29:42 02/02/12) Oh I've heard of it. It's as unbiased and credible as PITA,HSUS,PCRM etc.

First time I saw Mother Earth News was in the late 70's. They had good articles for those who wanted to garden and such. But They have turned into a tree hugger wacko rag now. On that I have to agree.

Rick

loved the old Mother Earth News, lots of good common sense projects, canceled about 3 years ago, turned in to a mouthpiece for Al Gore.

kinda like the spanish inquisistion.. lets burn em at the stake... and the world is flat... and we will beat a confession out of them. If you eat gmo food, you will have 100% of dying.(eventually)

If there is no gmo food, thousands and thousand more people will die with in a year of starvation that would not have.(100% true as well)

so who do we kill???

I don't use extra salt, even the breakfast cereal is laced with it, how else can they get rid of the bland taste, cheaply.Read the labels.

I've got a good idea, lets all plow the ground and let it wash down the creeks or blow away in the wind, just like the good old days. And maybe 50% of the population could be poor farmers and the average life span could be about 66, like the good old days. Nothing like the benefits of modern agriculture to give a person time to wish for the good old days.

Thousands are dying of starvation now and GMO crops haven't stopped it at all. So GMO farmers can stop patting themselves on the back for saving em. Most often it's the geopolitical situation that is causing the problems, not lack of food. When the GMO farmers put on battle rattle, grab an M4 and defeat the War Lords/harsh dictaters and such who are preventing people from growing/gathering/raising/hunting food they cannot claim they are keeping people from starving with GMO crops. It just isn't true and all the GMO crops in the world are not going to fix that problem. in other countries some are so poor that they just can't buy food and there is no welfare system to help.

Plus, lets have crops that yield less so food costs even more, burn more fuel when we spend all summer cultivating and harrowing to keep weeds out of the fields. Let the bugs have their share too because dogonit there people too doncaknow!

What a bunch of uninformed crap this is. If companies should be held accountable then use your energy to sue Monsanto for using agent orange in Vietnam. Put up or shut up!

Ross, Dan listen to what you are saying. Your comments make it sound like it's all about you, more yield, less time in the field ECT. The issue is safety and until long term effects are known I'm not willing to possibly be responsible for someone dying just to save a little time or make more profit.

Rick, I think you are missing what I am saying. I did come off a bit harsh but it is hard for me to take someone bashing modern technology on a computer using the internet and I apologize for that. What I am getting at is if modern fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides and good genetics in seed the yields will drop (I have personally seen a 30 bpa difference in gmo corn vs non gmo and I used more chemicals on the non gmo) there will be less food out there for people and that means more hungry people. There will also be more pollution and compaction from increased tillage trying to control weeds. If you should start suing, go after the USDA, FDA, Monsanto, Dow, DuPont, the seed dealers, farmers, elevators and end users and grocery stores. I am a farmer (yes farming is a BUSINESS) and it is about making money and taking care of the ground and doing it efficiently. Most farmers do not "rape" the soil like most people not connected to farming think. Why would we wreck what makes our living? I may eat these words someday IDK. I also work for a company that uses a lot of chemicals. They bend over backwards with the policies and procedures to make sure that their products are safe and that they and we as employees don't pollute.

I agree that it is political/economic reasons for poverty and under utilization of farmland in other countries but, the world population is growing and those people need to eat (can't get around that) and that food has to come from somewhere and we aren't going to feed them using methods from the 40's and 50's when 1 American farmer fed 50-60 people and now a days American farmers feed 150-160 people. By using gmo crops here allows us to produce more food with the land that we have got here and be less susceptible to Mother Nature's surprises (I know we will never be able to control her!) Less food = more expensive food = more hungry people. There are more experienced people over at newagtalk.com in the crops forum that can answer better than I.
