Other then the transmission problem this car is in pretty good shape. 157,XXX miles on it good tires body in fair shape for the year seats etc good heat/ac work starts good. Picked it up for $650. Even with it only having 1,2 and 5th forward it does good as for driving since it will get up to around 50mph in 2nd. I do plan to look for a good used transmission but till I find one cheap I'll drive it like it is. Either way had to find another set of wheels so the boy can maybe have a way to work if he can find a job

Checked them out but boy they want a lot for a simple 5 speed transmission for one. $350 plus it out of the ball park for what I would pay for one that is used. If that is what parts are going for now days guess I should part out a few I have here.

Having lost two gears on the same shift rail and everything else works fine, I suspect it is only a linkage problem, either internal or external to the trans.
Good chance that it is not a very hard or expensive repair.

When I was a Claims Adjuster working vehicle service contracts, we found that, contrary to popular opinion, Toyotas, Hondas, and Nissans blow just as many engines and transmissions as domestic makes, and usually cost about three times as much to fix.

You can shift it into 3rd but if you try to make it pull much it pops out and it will not even try to go to 4th. If/when I find another transmission for it I'll open this one up and have a look see since it will fit in both the cars we now have

So your'e saying that it may have more to do with the owner? I straddle the fence on the import/domestic thing. I try to make sure they were at least assembled in this country. I did buy an old Ford that was assembled in Mexico. Made a lot of money fixing that one up.

Hey old, what year is it? Also, where are you?

I have a 95 Corolla with automatic transmission, 1.8 engine. It has a broken timing belt.

If you had the whole car the swap from manual to automatic shouldn't be too hard. All I am asking is basically scrap value, $250 per ton. It is a wagon, stated curb weight is 2430 lbs. That would be $303.75 for the whole car. DOUG

I live in Missouri but the thing is I HATE automatic transmissions and when I got the chance to buy this one even with it having a problem I jumped on it. I also have a Camey that has an automatic and I have been looking for a Camey that has an standard with a bad engine so I could make a good one out of the 2 but so far not found one

Change to automatic calls for change of read end ratio. Maybe some computer stuff, too. I'm with John. Check and recheck linkage. Bad adjustment will cause popping out of gear. BTDT but not a Toyota. Dave

Ya looked at the linkage and that is not it unless internal and then that takes it off the road for 4 plus weeks since I can only work a few short hours a day any more. So at this point I'll run it as is till I can find another trans or car so as to be able to take it down for a month
