white slope boss

Has anyone ever seen or know where a white 4-210 slope boss tractor is? It is basically a 4-210 white field boss tractor except it had large flotation tired on it with the tread turned backwards so it could get better traction pulling a drag to groom ski slopes. I have always wanted to see one and possible buy one as well. Any information on this tractor would be greatly appreciated.

There was an article in Hart Parr Oliver Collector I think, maybe Oliver Heritage, several years ago about one. I don't recall which issue it was,but it's been several years ago now. I don't remember either off hand where it was,but seems like in the northeast somewhere,Vermot maybe. But yes, they were real.

My understanding is the Slope Boss concept was not terribly successful. While the basic idea was OK, the higher ground pressure of 4 wheels - even when fitted with floation tires - resulted in more snow compaction (hence icing and ruts) than tracked groomers like Tucker SnoCat, Pisten-Bully, Bombardier, etc.

Punch the link then scroll down for a photo of a Slope Boss at work.

There was a dealer in Vermont that had exclusive rights to sell the 'Slope Boss'. I think it might have had a deeper oil pan as well as the terra-tires.
I think the reason the tires were reversed was because you really wanted more control going downhill, even at the expense of less traction going up.
I've been in the ski industry for 40 years, and only saw these things at the Winter trade shows. They must have sold a few, but probably all in the Northeast where the snow is not very powdery. The Slope Boss became obsolete when the tracked vehicles got much larger engines together with mounted tillers and really good blades.

Looked at the Agco history on your link. Massey Harris teamed up with Henry Ferguson? Who the heck is Henry Ferguson? LoL

I remember from the article that they were used in Vermont I believe that it was at Pico which is now part of Killington. They would have been sold by a dealer that was in Ferrisburg VT until about five years ago. So chances are they are still in the general area of Northwestern VT
