I moved a travel trailer this past weekend and the tractor moved it ok but I had to leave it hooked up to the trailer in the up position for a long while and when I went to let it down, it would not go down.. It is stuck in the up position. If I kill the engine, it will leak down but as soon as you start it, it goes straight beck to the top..

I probably can't help, but what breed is the tractor? 640 doesn't ring any bells as to a model number, at least for older tractors.

Sounds like the control valve is stuck. Pull the right hand inspection plate off and watch the control and see if it is moving the valve.
Also you would be better off asking this do in the correct forum and since I am guessing it is a 640 fard the ford forum would be the correct one

For some reason, I thought the 600 and 800 series models always ended in 1. Don't see too many of them around here- didn't have a strong dealer during that period of time.

Try this. When it is in as high a position as it goes find a jack you can put under the hitch and raise untill you are starting to lift the tractor. Now lower the hitch lever and let set for a short while, now then start lowering your jack and it may just lower completely. I have found that you can put too heavy a load on the 3 point hitch and it will cause the valve to stick and removing the weight pressure for a while will let that valve unstick.

Well after the NAA they had the 600/700/800/900 from 1955 to 1957 then in 1958 the 601/701/801/901 came out ad ran till 1962 and then the thousand series came out
