allis chalmers ca clutch slip

I have an allis chalmers ca that the clutch slips on when going up a steep hill or its under load. I pulled the engine off and the clutch and pressure plate look fine, although there is some oil buildup on the back of the block suggesting that there is a leak somewhere but i dont think its getting on the pressure plate. My question is, what else could be causing it to slip? Thanks for any help in this matter.

Are you sure the clutch disk is in fact good. If it is the rivet type the rivets should be inset a good bit but if they are not the disk is bad. You could also have weak pressure plate springs which are hard to be sure of unless you know just how they should feel like. Out you could also have the clutch pedal set wrong and the other thing is the CA has the clutch in the rear end that could also be slipping and if it is I think your in real trouble since last I knew those parts where no long able to be found

I haven't heard of the rear axle clutch being hard to find, in my experience. Might be different in other areas of the country. I would check that axle clutch, if there is no oil on the engine clutch face, or lining.

A year ago a supplier told me the dry disk was $130, and a complete used assembly (I was looking at a tractor that had no hand clutch in it) was about $600. I wonder if some brake shops can re-line them.
