have a 6.0 w/ 120,000 miles. trouble is if under 40 degrees , it wont start w/o excessive cranking , then idleds very rough for 5 to 10 min. no throttle response so wont move. had it scanned , didnt reveal anything except a weak no. 5 inj. been told could be inj. pump, could be all injectors need replaced ($3200) or the filter and lift pump under cab on frame rail. any thoughts???

if it runs ok after a short warm up then the glow plug module may not be working. if it doesnt run good ever then it could be the fuel injector control module(ficm). they can be sent off for repair and reflash .or could be injectors usually injector problems are related to low fuel pressure or fuel quality. this engine doesnt have a conventional injection pump. usually high pressure oil pump problems show up on hot engines that cut off or wont restart

I'd change the filter first. If that isn't it then like juniur said it could be your glow plug module. Does it start any better if the truck is plugged in like over night?

Either be prepared to spend lots of money on repairs, or get rid of it. The problems of the 6.oh,no are simply endless.

Read up on checking the FICM voltage and make sure you are in spec there when cranking (it is possible to be good when you just have the key on, but then drops when cranking). My buddy's truck had the same thing and it was the glow plug module. Little pricy, but a quick fix, probably even easier if you have tiny hands or a nice girl with small hands that can help you.

Get Rid of It Quick!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your problems have just began. We went thru 11 injectors 3 + 8 and still needed egr valve and cooler when we traded got less than the cost of repairs over the past Year. Truck had 137,000 when trouble began,142,000 when we traded.

They certainly have their problems, but if you're willing to spend some money to FIX them, rather than just band-aid, you will have a rig that will last for a good long time. You'll hafta look to the after market, not Ford. Check some of the dedicated powerstroke or other diesel forums (thedieselstop_com). They have the answers. I'm thinkin about finding one that someone is tired of and putting the $ into it. They really are good trucks, just have their issues...

Trade down to a older 7.3. I have a 1996 250 4x4 with the 7.3. It has right at 350,000 miles and except for normal maintenance has never been touched. It may blow up tomorrow, but, it always starts good, hot or cold, runs and pulls good, and uses very little oil and gets decent fuel milage for a truck of that size.

of the mechanics and a couple owner's i've heard mentioned the 6.0 say it's plagued with high priced problems

The advise that SO Jefferson gave you is the way to go. No offense but you need to be asking people that work on these engines instead of those who work on 50 year old tractors. In addition to Dieselstop forums,Fordtruckenthusists forum can be a lot of help. By the way, don't take anything else to that guy who schaned it and suggested possiably injector pump, the 6.0L doesn't have one.
