Sunday work

After reading JDs thread, it got me wondering, how many of us work on Sunday? When I was a kid 60 years ago Sunday was a day of rest. The only thing open was a gas station from 10 until 2. Their were four stations in town and they would take turns being open four hrs a month. You could get gas or a pop, candybar and that was it.Back then we had time for fishing, or a pic nic, or just sit on the porch and make ice cream. I do not know about all of you but if the weather allows its just another day in the week with me. But I swear this next year is going to be different if at all possible. I think it would do us all alot of good to relax and reflect on the past weeks work and most of all enjoy what we have been blessed with and if you are so inclined...give thanks.

our family hasnt worked on sunday for at least 90 years and have always been blessed for it ---not only financially but with the great group at our church we worship with ---i have seen many families destroyed by a 7 day a week routine

Spent my life like many working every other weekend. Every other holiday including Christmas. Nurses, doctors, firemen, police, power plant workers, list goes on and on. Missed gatherings and events. Many just do not have the option of taking Sundays as a day of rest.

Kinda reminds me of the Andy griffith Show about Workin on Sun..I've always tried to not have Tooo Much goin On that I can't take of on the Lords day..I Figger' It can wait til Mon.. Have a good Day Larry KF4LKU

There is a reason God commanded a day of rest in seven. Not only in respect for Him but a time for rest and reflection, it is just plain healthy to rest your body and mind. Many of us have to work on Sunday since America's no. 1 religion is now Shopping instead of Christianity.

My grandfather farmed, and aside from livestock chores, no work occurred on Sunday. He is quoted as saying 'what gets done on Sunday, is how much you lose on Monday'. I attend church in the morning, and try to not do anything that requires me to change clothes the rest of the day. Usually means I take a nap!!!

I go to church almost every morning and evening service. But in the spring and summer if the weather is good for haying, usually I have to be in the field. It's good though, to see how many believers there are among us.

Tried all my life not to work on the Sabbath. When I was a kid, Dad would not allow it. I may cut grass on Sunday if it needs it, but that is fun not work. What would Jesus do? Covers a lot. Dave

I try not to do anything I consider work on Sunday. Today after church, I spent the afternoon working on the new loading chute. I enjoy woodworking, so it was more fun than work.

We make it to church every Sunday, after that, it's kind of up for grabs. I'm not good at just sitting around relaxing..... I figure God understands.

i try to honor GOD and not put the ox in the ditch causing me to have to work on Sunday, remember when i was a small boy daddy didn't work on Sunday unless it was a have to,something was wrong with the tractor he decided to fix it even though it was Sunday ,i still remember the snow that came that day even though it was to late in the spring to snow

Yep, same here.

I try not to do much on the Sundays I have off but some one has to keep fresh water in the pipes and every other weekend is my turn. 7 pm to 7 am.

I try and not bale hay or do any major farm work on Sunday, but I will piddle around the barns or in the garden. My church lets out at 11:30, so it is hard for me to spend 6 hours of daylight doing nothing!

Sunday is the Lord's Day.
So, no work, except for emergencies.
Not saying that those who do work on Sundays are wrong; nursing, law enforcement, to name but a few.

Is most everything except bars, gasstations, and restaurants closed on Sunday with you folks?

Took a little getting used to for me but it's pretty peaceful on Sundays. Nice day to drive and see the country...... Of course the farmers work but usually don't do the heavy stuff and run machines on Sundays.... There is a couple bakeries and a meat shop open a couple hours on Sunday morning in the city, but that's it.....

I can't think of a single business around here that is closed for the Sabbath. Some are M-F, of course, and some of the mechanical and logging supply outfits are open until noon on Saturday, to serve the guys who can't make it in during the week. But closed only Sunday? Not many. All the retailers are open Sunday- big shopping day.

However, the local Kubota dealer was bought by a Seventh Day Adventist, and is closed Saturday but open Sunday. Takes some getting used to for the customers.

Had a junk yard and autoparts that was like that as a kid...... They really drummed up the business.....

(quoted from post at 07:19:01 01/23/12) what about dairy farmers. I cant ever get a day off.

The big guy is in the heart... All too often the head.... Do what you gotta do and enjoy....

I figger wherever 2 or more are gathered ( me, myself, and I)....is the place to be... Most churches make it hard on the old guy sorting out all the hipocrits and blessing the ones that deserve it........

(quoted from post at 04:19:48 01/23/12) Church, big dinner, and football. What else could Sunday be for??
ow about asking the Lord for forgiveness for sins committed and make room in the sin box,so one can fill it back up in the week ahead
